Topographic Map Project

DueDate: Tuesday March 31, 2009

We have spent the last week learning about topography and topographic maps.  For this project you need to create a topographic map of your own! This map can be of a real or imaginary place.  Some examples of places people have done in the past were Peabody, Hogsmeade (area around Hogwarts school), Narnia, Basketballville, etc.

Your project must contain the following:

1. Size of Paper:  A sheet of 8 ½ x 11 in sheet of white computer paper (handed out in class)

2. Key or Legend with the following:

-At least 5 symbols (from page 30)

-A scale:  either 1:24,000 (1cm=24,000 cm in real life) or something    else ex.- 1cm : 1 km

-contour interval: (what each line goes up by, usually 10, 20, 50, or 100 feet)

-Relief of highest mountain (Highest – Lowest point on mountain)

3. A title

4. Hill or mountain with a steep slope (contour lines are close together)

5.Elevation of highest point on your map must be labeled with (x).

6. Hill or mountain with a gentle slope (contour lines are spaced further apart)

7. Plateau

8. Plain

9. Stream and a water feature of some kind (Lake, pond,river, ocean, or small sea)

Grading:  * Please no lead Pencil, or blue or black pen!

            * Spelling

            * Neatness

            * Quality

            * Effort

As always, do not turn in anything you are not proud of.  It is better to lose points for lateness than for not following directions.  Finally any project turned in after the due date will lose ten points for each day late.
