Welcome to Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Wilkinson's Marvelous Monkeys We have had a very talkative week. This is only the second week that we have gone a full 5 days since Christmas. So by today, we were all a little tired. We will not have any days off until Spring Break, so, hopefully we will get back into the swing of things. However, we have had a good week of learning. This week we have talked about the letter Kk and its sound. We learned that some words sound like they start with the /k/ sound, but they don’t. Instead, they start with the letter “c”. These are 2 tricky letters. We also were introduced to the word “here.” It is also a tricky word. This will be a spelling word next week. We also talked about weather, and different types of weather and describing words about weather. In math this week, we have been talking about position and location. We have been describing the position of objects such as our pencil box, cubes, crayons, etc using words like: inside, outside, top, middle, bottom, over, under, and on. In the computer lab this week we watched some videos of penguins. We continued our talks on penguins. Then we wrote stories during writing time with facts about penguins. We learned that facts are true statements. Ask your child what are some of the things that he/she learned about penguins this week. We celebrated Groundhog Day on Thursday. We learned that the groundhog did see his shadow, so there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Please read with/to your child each night. Reading builds fluency. The more familiar that a child becomes with the words he/she knows or does not know, the better reader he/she will become. Please be sure to listen to your child read the book that comes home in the reading log also. These books will gradually get harder as your child begins to read more words. Don't forget to initial the reading log after your child reads with you.
