Home Sweet Home The theme for this year's elementary art program is "Home Sweet Home". This year we will be exploring our town and what our students feel makes a homes special. We will also be exploring architecture styles and animal habitats. Perhaps we will even design homes of the future! Our annual art show will take place on the evening of March 19th from 6:00 to 8:00. Every one of our students will have several pieces in the show; it is a huge event that is open to the public, with parents and community members from our town and local area towns attending to celebrate our students' creativity. Please mark your calendar and come join us! This year we will have an additional art display at the Westerly Artist Co-Op, which will take place during the month of February. On display will be group projects created at each grade level, which will represent all of our students. There will also be some works by individual students displayed. We will have our works in the second room at the gallery, with the Co-Op's works on display in the first room that month as well! Watch the newspapers and our school newsletter for more information on this and the date of the Opening Reception, which will be the first Wednesday of February. Last February, Wheeler Middle School displayed their work at this gallery, and I believe we are the first Elementary School to be invited. We have been invited to display student work through the graciousness of the artists who are members of the Co-op. Many of these artists generously donated their time and talents last fall as our guests for an evening event held at our school that we called "Meet Our Local Artists". Twenty artists from our local area came and brought their works to show and explain to our students. We had a great turnout and our students really had wonderful individual conversations with artists who work in many interesting styles and media. So, Welcome back to the 2008-2009 School year. I look forward each year to guiding your children through the creative process! Mrs. Starr
