May 27, Wednesday. Several students will take the reading eog retest tomorrow morning. We did go over some test taking strategies today, and these students had a chance to ask questions and review. All students who have Language Arts textbooks need to return those asap. The Media Center still has over 300 books overdue...all these books need to be returned. May 26, Tuesday. Dance tickets go on sale today at lunch. Students from periods 1 and 2 need to return their language arts test book as soon as possible. Students in periods 1 and 2 who have not finished the reading up to and including chapter 14 must sign out a book during busroom and complete the reading and discussion questions at home tonight. Many of these devices are seen in the Blue Diamond Testing done daily in class- these Blue Diamond Tests are designed for EOG preparation. May 12, Tuesday. There will be a test on these literary devices on Friday- matching terms and definitions. ***End of Grade Tests will be next week: Monday 5/18- Science, Tuesday 5/19- Math and Wednesday 5/20- Reading. May 11, Monday. Prepare Poetry Portfolilo to be turned in tomorrow 5/12. Your rubric should be on top with your name and your score from the recitation, followed by your eight ten-line poems and reflections and finally poetry terms. Be sure to review Literary Terms sheet given in class today for a test on Friday. After scoring Blue Diamond Fifth Quarter tests- I was able to add extra credit points to student's grades. This is based on the Langston Hughes' "Theme for English B" This poem should be about what people want or expect from them, and this poem should be 10 lines long. April 23, Thursday. Students are to complete 10 line "I am" metaphor poem that was started in class today. April 22, Wednesday. Students are to write a 10 line poem with an extended metaphor. This poem is based on our reading of "Mother to Son" by Langston Hugehes. April 21, Tuesday. Students must turn in poetry assignment, art component and persuasive letter tomorrow, April 22. Poetry should include rough drafts of I am poem, ABC poem and double voice poem, final copy of their best poem and the rubric. Art component should be stapled to the rubric and persuasive letter should include a rough draft, final copy and the rubric. We begin the poetry unit Wednesday. April 20, Monday. Review your notes March 26, Thursday. Review research for first draft on Friday. We will read through an example of a research paper. You should look over your research and try to find ways to group your information for the first draft of your research paper. Keep in mind that you need 3 sources to use for your 3 MLA citations (citationbuilder.com). Bring a #2 pencil for Blue Diamond test tomorrow. March 25, Wednesday. Review research for first draft on Friday. We will examine an example of a well-written research paper, but you must have the facts, details and statistics on your subject to begin your paper. Don't forget to keep website names and book titles for your citations.

I just returned from a seminar in Charlotte where I got to hear testimonies from liberators in the US Armed Forces for WWII and Holocaust Survivors.
