Pourquoi Tales

Elements of Pourquoi Tales:  (must know for the test!)

• Explain how something in nature came to be
• Can be about animal traits, nature, or people’s customs
• Feature animals or natural forces that have personalities and can speak
• Often take place in the distant past
• Sound as if they are being told aloud
• “pourquoi” is the French word for “why”

Personification:

When animals and non-living things are given a voice and/ or personalities.
