Dear Families, Wow! The past couple of weeks have been very busy! Thank you so much to all of the family members who helped chaperone our field trip to the Renaissance Fair. It was a great success! The students really enjoyed experiencing Renaissance life first hand. In Social Studies, the students are continuing their Renaissance experiences by role-playing various societal roles from the Middle Ages. Students are peasants, knights or nobles. Students are writing diary entries based on their experiences. These reflections are part of a group of lessons taught by Ms. Crothers, one of our In Math, we are continuing to work on Algebra as well as Data Analysis and Probability. The students are creating fantasy football teams based on professional players. We will be tracking statistics and creating graphs to track progress. This is an exciting way for students to make real world connections. In Science, students are completing their models of the Earth’s systems. Our classroom has been a hive of creativity! Students have been busy using papier-mâché, Styrofoam, and paint to create their models. They are also starting their PowerPoint projects about the Earth. New reading and writing contracts went home last week from Language Arts. We are discussing the components of quality responses in class and we examined a quality response to use as our exemplar. Our next goals are due Friday, November 6. We are also continuing to read Skellig by David Almond as our read aloud. Our mini-lessons based on our read aloud have centered on symbolism, foreshadowing, the use of details in writing and how to analyze and use word choice. In Spanish, we are starting a new project on a famous Latino to research. The students are to research and either complete a visual to share with the rest of the class or write a research paper. This is due Friday, November 20. We are also continuing to review greetings, numbers and common Spanish words and phrases.
