Who is the star of the team?

Classwork: Ms. Roberson took some time to review all of the parts of the sentence from the sponge. We went over the test we had on Friday, and we put it into our CRCT folder. We learned about relative pronouns:

1. Relative pronouns-that, which, who, whom, whose

2. Relative pronouns begin Adjective clauses. (Clauses that describe a noun/pronoun)

3. The relative pronoun acts as the subject and the subordinating conjunction in the sentence.

After we learned about relative pronouns, we took a Pronoun Check up to get ready for Wednesday's test.

Homework:Pronoun OAS test deadline has been extended to Tuesday, March 27 by 9:00 p.m.

When the school bus arrived, it was late.

Classwork: Students took notes on "antecedents," and we looked at a paragaph that didn't have any pronouns, and we fixed it. Students worked on their biography projects.

Homework: Ms. Roberson assigned all students a Georgia OAS CRCT practice online test. It is called "6th Punctuation Practice."

Students were given a username and password from their math teacher (it is on the access page in the agenda).

Students need to go to www.georgiaoas.org, put in their username and password, then select "Teacher Assigned Tests." The Georgia OAS test is due Monday by 9:00 p.m.

1.   Simple: One independent clause and no subordinate clause.

 

2.   Compound: Two or more independent clauses, usually joined by a comma and a conjunction.

 

3.   Complex: One independent clause and at least one dependent clause.

 

4.   Compound-Complex: Two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause.

 

Classwork: Students took notes on the steps needed to

identify sentence structure: Then, students took a "POP quiz"

1.    Label all subjects and verbs.

2.    Count how many “pairs/groups” of subjects and verbs that you have.

3.    Circle any subordinating conjunctions.

4.    Put a BOX around any coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS).

a.  In order to have a subordinating/coordinating conjunction, you have to have a subject and verb after the conjunction.

5.    Start underlining:

a.  Dependent clauses will start with the subordinating conjunction. (Underlined twice)

b.Independent clauses USUALLY start with the subject. (Underlined once).

6.    Once you have your underlines, determine what kind of sentence it is.
