We learned about relative pronouns: 1. Relative pronouns-that, which, who, whom, whose 2. Relative pronouns begin Adjective clauses. (Clauses that describe a noun/pronoun) 3. The relative pronoun acts as the subject and the subordinating conjunction in the sentence. After we learned about relative pronouns, we took a Pronoun Check up to get ready for Wednesday's test. 2. Compound: Two or more independent clauses, usually joined by a comma and a conjunction.
3. Complex: One independent clause and at least one dependent clause.
4. Compound-Complex: Two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause.
Classwork: Students took notes on the steps needed to identify sentence structure: Then, students took a "POP quiz" 1. Label all subjects and verbs. 2. Count how many “pairs/groups” of subjects and verbs that you have. 3. Circle any subordinating conjunctions. 4. Put a BOX around any coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS). a. In order to have a subordinating/coordinating conjunction, you have to have a subject and verb after the conjunction. 5. Start underlining: a. Classwork: After reviewing the sponge, Ms. Roberson reminded students that there are a few linking verbs that are very common, and if students see these words in a sentence, and they are alone (no other verbs in the sentence), then they will be linking: is, am, are, was, were, seems. Students wrote down the formula for a PA/PN: Subject + Linking verb + Whaaaat? Then ask if the answer is a noun or adjective=PA/PN Students then went over yesterday's guided notes about Subject complements.
