Homework for Friday, 1/9: NONE!!!

Homework for Thursday, 1/8: Read "My Return to South Africa", written by Dennis Brutus in 1991 before the end of apartheid.  Write a 3-paragraph essay explaining what his return would be like if he went back to South Africa now:  one paragraph on the changes in the country, one paragraph on what has remained the same, and one paragraph on what changes need to be made.  This is the last assignment for the Southern Africa test equivalent - tomorrow is the last day to turn in all 11.

Homework for Wednesday, 1/7: Read pgs. 448-451 and complete Parts B and C for Ch. 18-3.

Homework for Tuesday. 1/6: Read "Desmond Tutu" and answer questions 1 and 2.  Then read the excerpt from Nelson Mandela's autobiography LONG WALK TO FREEDOM.  Use context clues to match the 8 terms to their definitions.

Homework for Monday, 1/5: Read "South Africa, Part 2" and answer questions 1-10.  There WILL be a homework quiz tomorrow.  Finish any work not completed in class.

NO HOMEWORK OVER WINTER BREAK - SOME STUDENTS WILL DO MAKEUP WORK.  HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY !

Homework for Thursday, 12/18: Complete the "Apartheid Packet".  It's easy to overlook the fact that you need to write a paragraph or two after reading the poem about Soweto.

Homework for Wednesday, 12/17: Write the questions and page summaries for the Cornell notes on "Apartheid".  This assignment is worh as much as 10 points on the test equivalent.   Bring a 42 cent postage stamp tomorrow.  We will be sending season's greetings to wounded soldiers recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  Extra stamps would be appreciated as some students will forget to bring one.

Homework for Tuesday, 12/16: Read "South Africa, Part 1" and answer questions 1-11.  This assignment is for a quiz grade.

Homework for Monday, 12/15: Read pgs. 440-445 (Ch. 18-2). Write 10 history questions and 10 culture questions and answer them.  These must be turned in by Friday, but the sooner the better.  At the very least, read the material (in case of a pop quiz).

Homework for Friday, 12/12: Due on Monday from earlier this week - Southern Africa map colored by elevation, Ch. 18-1 Questions pages.  Study for the map quiz to be given on Monday - no capitals.

Homework for Thursday, 12/11:  Read "Namibia's Skeleton Coast" and answer questions 1 & 2.  Get your interims signed and return them tomorrow.

Homework for Wednesday, 12/10: Color your Southern Africa map by elevation.

Homework for Tuesday, 12/9: Read the N & O article "Chimp refuge seeks to save waning species" and answer the 2 questions.  Classwork and homework from Monday are due tomorrow which is also the last day that I will accept any late or  missing work.

Homework for Monday. 12/8: Finish your take-home test and check your answers.  If you were unable to take the test at home, reread Chapters 12 and 16.  The work begun in class today is due on Wednesday.

Homework for Friday, 12/5: If you got your letter signed, work on the take-home test.  If you didn't get it signed, have your parent sign it and bring it to class on Monday so you can get a copy of the test to do at home Monday night.

Homework for Thursday, 12/4: Match proverbs to their American counterparts in "African Proverbs".

Homework for Wednesday, 12/3: Have a parent read and sign the letter about the take-home test.

Homework for Tuesday, 12/2: Read "Sub-Saharan Civilizations: East Africa,       A.D. 1000-1600" and answer the questions on the back.  Don't be surprised if there's a homework quiz tomorrow.  ALERT: Look for a letter coming home tomorrow about the upcoming take-home test.

Homework for Monday, 12/1: Use the notes taken in class to write an acrostic poem entitled INDIAN OCEAN SLAVE TRADE.  One line for each letter.  You may use a homework pass.
