LA FLOR DE NAVIDAD

 

Dec 10-Dec 17

Kindergarten/1st Grade – La Poinsettia

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in school as a tool for communication. Sample Expressions:

o       Posada /Navidad

o       Mucho Gusto/Mucho Susto

Standard 1.2 Students understand and follow oral/written commands/words in target language

o       Sing ABC (alphabet song)

o       Review classroom commands (Sientáte, levantate, vuelta, arriba, abajo )

o       “Las Manos” song- teaching prepositions (arriba, abajo) and bailar

o       Songs from K(dolor de cabeza, colors and food)

o       Story of Poinsettia

o       Color- Ornamento & Santa Claus

Second Grade – Weather 

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in school as a tool for communication . Sample Expressions:

·        Me gusta ( I like)

·        Weather: Hace frio, hace calor, nieve, tormenta, sol, lluvia,

Standard 1.2 Students understand and follow oral/written commands/words  in target language

o       Classroom Commands (Sientáte, levantate)

o       Students color picture of weather expressions and create a glossary of weather terms in Spanish

o       Students play bingo- Students will get points if the colors in their pictionary match the colors called in Spanish and weather expressions. 

Standard 4.2 Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture though comparisons of the cultures studied and their own

·        Students will be creating Christmas Candle describing their family names in Spanish

·        Students will be learning about PosadasThey will be reading : “The Nights of Posadas” ¿ Qué monton de Tamales?

·        Students will watch a video about Holiday traditions in South America and compare them with American Christmas and Happy New Year. 

 

Third Grade-The Family

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in class as a tool for communication . Sample Expressions:

  • Students share a written composition in Spanish about their families
  • Students guess riddles about family member uisng Spanish vocabulary (madre, padre, hermano, hermana, sobrino, sobrina,abuelo, abuela, hijo, hija )

Standard 1.2 Students understand and follow oral/written commands/words  in target language

  • Students listen to the spelling of  family words and write them
  • Students match words in Spanish/English in the board.
  • Students write a composition in Spanish about their family.

Standard 4.2 Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture though comparisons of the cultures studied and their own

·        Students will be creating Christmas Trees describing their families in Spanish

·        Students will be learning about PosadasThey will be reading : “The Nights of Posadas” ¿ Qué monton de Tamales?

·        Students will watch a video about Holiday traditions in South America and compare them with American Christmas and Happy New Year. 

·        Students learn the story of Guadalupe and the significance of the holiday for the Mexican People. 

 

Fourth Grade –Body Parts

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in class as a tool for communication . Sample Expressions:

  • Students will sing “ La cabeza” and they will pretend to have a headache, stomach, throat, back and feet pain using the words in Spanish for each body part.  We will also do “Manos arriba” y “Cabeza, cintura, rodillas y pies)
  • Students share a composition about themselves in class in Spanish .  

Standard 1.2 Students understand and follow oral/written  commands/words  in target language

o       Classroom Commands (Sientáte, levantate, vuelta, arriba , abajo) moving different body parts

o       Students play hanged man using body parts vocabulary ( mano, pies, cabeza, pelo, ojos, nariz, boca, brazo, pierna, pie, hombro y rodilla & sizes (grande,pequeňo, mediano)

o       Students label body parts of an elf in Spanish

o       Students write a composition about their body parts in Spanish.    

 

Fifth Grade- Me gusta

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in class as a tool for communication . Sample Expressions:

·        Students share funny sentences about favorite activities and places around school written in class about their classmates.

Standard 1.2 Students understand and follow oral/written  commands/words in target language

  • Students will write a composition in Spanish about four days of the week and their daily activities during the morning, afternoon, evening and night. The composition will have four paragraphs and will have four sentences per paragraph.

 

Sixth Grade- El Restaurante

Standard 5.1 Students use the language in class as a tool for communication . Sample Expressions:

·        Students will present a dialogue involving an interaction in a restaurant between them and a waiter/staff.  They will work with a partner to act out the script.

·        Presentations will be done in class acting dialogues out.

 

Standard 1.2 Students understand and interpret written language and spoken language

  • Students will listen to dialogues and interact with participants in Spanish

 

Seventh Grade-/Eight Grade  Greetings and Courtesy Expressions

Standard 1.3 Students understand written language and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. 

·        Students will write dialogues in class including expressions learned.  Dialogues will include introduction vocabulary, presentations and saying good-bye. 

·        Students will share their phone number in the class and other students will listen to understand it.

·        Student will share their birthdays in Spanish in class and a class graph of birthdays will be developed.

Standard 1.2 Students understand and interpret written language and spoken language

·        Students will translate the paragraph to English

·        Students will listen to the dialogue in Spanish.  They will translate the dialogue to English
