Rains’ Ramblings

March is here already and we are close to FCAT testing. The class has been working very hard and I am very pleased. Please get them here on time and well rested. Have your child bring in a bottle of water every day. Students need to be here on time as they will not be allowed to enter the room after testing has started and will have to wait in the office.We won’t know the test results until May when they will be sent home to you.

Class work continues to move ahead, although I have eased up some with no homework or curriculum testing. I think they have had enough of that for now. They will resume after FCAT testing. Our dates of testing are:

March 9^th,10^th, and 11^h, Tues.-Thurs. I have sent home an envelope with paper to write a note to your child for each testing day. Please return as soon as you can. The children love this every year.

Reading: We will be doing a mystery unit during FCAT testing and then going back to MacMillian when done. Children will be working in book clubs of 4 students to discuss their reading.

Math: Our next chapters in math will be Chap 24(Probability),Chapter 25(Fractions),Chapter 26(Adding and Subtracting Fractions), Chapter 27(Fractions and Decimals), and Chapter 28(Decimals and Money).

Writing: The students will be working on an expository writing about third grade. Staying focused on the main idea in each paragraph is our goal.

Science: We are currently in our plants and animal unit. The children had a hands on activity with real flowers and did very well.

Social Studies: We are getting ready to start our Pinellas County Unit soon. Time for Kids continues to keep us informed of current events.
