Rains’ Ramblings Rains’ Ramblings

November/December
My class is fantastic. We are making such great progress in all areas of the curriculum. Children are doing their homework and being responsible in studying for tests. Thanks to all the parents who are checking over their work and signing planners to keep up-to-date. Please have your child read at least 30 minutes nightly and practice their math facts. It is making a difference. The class is working hard on FCAT Explorer and Harcourt Math. They have their passwords and know how to log on. Practice at home would be beneficial. It’s amazing the children know so much about navigating around the net. They are now ready to learn to type, as most are using two fingers. Getting a typing program to practice on will help them learn early and will be very beneficial. We will be having a winter holiday party on Thursday, Dec.17th at 12:00-12:45. Mrs. Masselli and Mrs. Carney will be in touch with you about the details and help needed. Reading We continue working with our reading partners and discussing our books. The children are learning to be good listeners to one another and asking good questions. Most students are studying for their tests and bringing in notes for the 5 extra points. Writing We have finished our Favorite Place stories. They learned to stay focused and talk in more detail. They also revised and edited to improve their writings. Math The class is in multiplication in Chapters 8-11. Hopefully your child is learning their facts since we will finish these chapters very quickly because there is little to learn other than the practice of facts. Social Studies/Science Our flat maps were finished and hanging in the room and we are starting a new science unit on The Points of Light, a unit about the sky.
