 Recorder Ensemble Information

Expectations for Timothy Edwards Recorder Ensemble

1.             Respect

                *Respect the teacher and other students

                in the class

                *Respect school property

                (no writing on music stands, help

                keep classroom neat)

                *Respect the rights of others to learn

 

2.             Preparation and Participation for Class

                *Have all music supplies for each

                 class (instruments/music/notebook/pencil/lesson books)

                *Active daily participation is expected on all required

                 instruments

                *Signed, weekly practice chart to be handed in

                 every week

                *No candy, food, or other edibles allowed in the music

                 classrooms and performance areas

 

3.             Attendance and Tardiness

                *Please be in the classroom at designated time

                *Rehearsals begin 2 minutes later, giving students

                 time to be in their assigned seat, assemble

                 their equipment and warm up their instruments.

                *Any late arriving student must have an appropriatepass,

                  otherwise you may be asked  to stay after school and

                  may not receive full participation credit for that class.

                *If a student is absent from school, they are excused

                 from rehearsal, but expected to check in with  Ms. Rux

                  to obtain any make-up work.

                *If a student is in school, they are expected to be in

                 rehearsal, unless previous  arrangements have

                 been made with Ms. Rux.

 

4.             Concert Attendance

                *Attendance at dress rehearsals and concerts

                 are mandatory

                *Missed dress rehearsal and/or concert

                *Once the performance is made up, an excused school

                  absence earns no grade point  penalty

                 *A student looses that portion of a grade for

                 an unexcused absence.

               

5.             Grading

                *40% - class participation

                *30%- homework and class work, including

                practice charts

                *30 -tests/quizzes, performance based and written

                

           Grading breakdown for a marking period with a concert

               * 30% - class participation

               * 20% - homework and classwork, including

                 practice sheets

               * 20% - test/quizzes

               * 30% - concert

            

             *Extra credit opportunities are available if desired*

 

6.             Discipline and Consequences    

                Lack of respect for class rules and other studentsÂ…..

                *student loses participation points 

                *Private conference with the teacher and the

                student may be requested

                *Lunch detention may be assigned

                *Parent/Guardian contact may be made

                *Student may be required to stay after school

                 or come before school

                *A conference/referral to administration may be

                necessary if problems persist

 

7.             Additional Playing Opportunities

                *Students desiring extra help are encouraged to set up a

                  time with Ms. Rux for before or after school help

                *Extra, more challenging performance opportunities will

                 be available throughout the year (TBA)

                * Select Recorder Ensemble meets from 2:45-4:00 (day TBA)

               

8.           Extra Credit Opportunities 

             (added to participation grade - 5 points each)

              

              * attending an outside concert (professional or school)

                 and writing a short critique of concert

                (must provide program or copy of ticket stub)

              * attending and performing in any field trip

                (i.e. senior center, wood library, etc)

              * participation in any outside musical group

               (i.e. select recorder, jazz band, TE singers, etc)
