Literacy ... the gift that keeps on giving! About your Media Center... Operation The Library/Media Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am until 3:45pm. However, arrangements may be made to keep the center open after this time. Students may come to the Book Collection The Library/Media Center collection currently consists of over seven thousand volumes. The library subscribes to four newspapers, fifteen student oriented magazines, and ten professional periodicals. A growing audiovisual collection also supports the curriculum. Multi-media including in-house videos, United Streaming videos and the Internet resources such as those found on The South Carolina Virtual Library are available. Please view the URLs below for related links on current curriculum assignments. Book Circulation Non-reference books are checked out for a two-week period. Books may be renewed for an additional two-week period. Reference books are to be turned in the following school day. Reading Management Program We currently use Star Reader, along with other computerized assessment tools, to help measure students' present reading levels. Accelerated Reader, a computerized management program and accomplice to Star, is used to manage and dramatically increase individualized reading skills, to test comprehension, and to extend students’ reading interests. Students who demonstrate reading comprehension skills through Accelerated Reader test results receive awards including those of monetary value. Star Reader and Accelerated Reader may be accessed from anywhere within the building. Displays Displays are a large part of the Library/Media Center. The students gather information for research projects on various subjects. The displays in the Library/Media Center suggest possible research sources such as chronicles, bibliographies, encyclopedias, and other reference and non-fiction titles. Book Requests The Media Specialist encourages requests from parents, teachers, and students for curriculum-supported book and non-book materials that are not currently in our collection.
