The year's overview: Begin to use library tools as sources of information. Students analyze fairy tales & begin to work in teams.

3rd Quarter: investigate alphabetical order rules of fiction books; examine elements and purpose of illustrations

The year's overview: Learn shelving scheme for all library materials,  how to use & read computerized catalog records. Students use resources for state projects.

3rd Quarter: introduction to and use of computerized card catalog (author, title, and subject access); the wonderful world of the Dewey Decimal System!

The year's overview: Determine best reference source, including introduction of World Almanac. Students expand use of library for research.

Year overview: Apply knowledge of various reference sources in Caravans study of world geography. Students learn standard bibliographical format.

Year overview: Locate printed & online information through year-long abstract nouns project. Students practice standard bibliographical format.

 

3rd Quarter: continue year-long abstract nouns project using various reference sources (online newspaper, poetry); participate in various ancient history simulations

 

7th Grade

Year overview: Broaden knowledge of potential information in all sources. Students refine skills at using sources & practice standard bibliographical format.

3rd Quarter: discuss various library/research terms and strategies; strengthen research skills through various American history simulations

Year overview: Locate, organize, communicate, solve problems, & create useful products with all resources. Students practice standard bibliographical format.

I am available to students needing bibliographic, research, or other assistance during the school day, and at other mutually-agreed upon times, when requested.  I also offer/monitor study hall during lunch/recess for grades 3-5 (T,Th,F) and 6-8 (M-F).
