Dance: Please continue to remember to dress out for class each day.
Week of August 25th- Jazz Dance. Sixth grade students will be introduced to art of jazz dance and jazz vocabulary. They will also be learning a fun jazz combination. Seventh and eighth grade students will explore jazz dance technique in addition to learning jazz vocabulary. They will also learn a jazz combination.
Week of Sept 2- We will continue to study jazz dance. This week we will focus on jazz vocabulary. All grades will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, Sept 5th. See flashcards.
Week of Sept 8th- This week classes will begin studying ballet. We will discuss ballet technique and vocabulary. Sixth grade students will complete a packet about dance history.
Week of Sept 15th- We will be finishing up our study of ballet this week. Seventh grade classes will begin a dance history research/competition project. Seventh grade students will have a vocabulary quiz on Wednesday, Sept 20th. Sixth grade students will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday, Sept 21st. Sixth grade students will also have a test on Monday, Sept 22nd. The test will cover the information in the ballet history packet. A study guide will be completed in class and sent home on Friday, Sept 19th.
Week of Sept 22nd- Sixth grade students have a BALLET TEST on Monday the 22nd. The rest of the week we will begin learning and practicing modern dance. Seventh grade students will continue to work on their research projects as well as explore modern dance in class.
Week of Sept 29th- We are continuing our study of modern dance. Sixth grade students are learning about important figures in modern dance history such as Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey. Seventh grade students are working on research projects. Those projects are due Monday, October 6th. Both sixth and seventh grade classes are also exploring improvisation.
October 9th: Enloe High School dance students will be coming to work with the seventh grade class! This should be a fun and educational experience for everyone!
Week of Oct 6th- We will be finishing up our study of modern dance. Sixth grade students have a modern dance test on Wed, Oct 8th. Sixth graders should have also completed and turned in their home made "Modern Dance Pioneers" book. Seventh grade students presented dance history projects on Monday, Oct 6th. Seventh grade students will be working on improvisation as well as modern dance this week. They will be working with the dance teacher from Enloe High School on Thursday, Oct 9th.
Week of Oct 13th- This week students will begin to explore the elements of choreography. We will discuss the use of space, time, shape, and energy. Students will be working on small in-class projects to practice each of these elements.
Week of Oct 20th- We will continue to explore and experiment with the elements of choreography. Students will begin working on group choregraphy projects this week. Sixth grade students will use their grade level novel, The Lightning Thief, as inspirpation for the dance. Seventh grade students will be using poetry.
Week of Oct 27th- Both sixth and seventh grade classes will continue working on their choreography projects. All choreography should be completed by Tuesday, Oct 28th. Students will select music on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be practice days. Projects will be presented to the rest of the class and will be assessed on Wednesday, November 5th.
Week of Nov 3rd- Projects due Nov 5th. The rest of the week will be spent practicing for our End of the Trimester performance on November 14th.
Week of Nov 10th- This will be spent practicing and preparing for the End of the Trimester performance on Friday, Nov 14th. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Invitations will be sent home this week. Performances will take place during regular class time.
Drama:
Week of August 25th- Acting strategies. Students will learn about method acting and practice some of the strategies including sense memory, substitution, and emotional memory. We will also begin working on pantomime.
Week of Sept 2- This week we will continue to work on method acting strategies. We will also learn and practice the important acting concepts of motivation and internal dialogue. Students will participate in improvisations as well as open scenes.
6th and 7th grade classes: Quiz over method acting notes on Tuesday, Sept 2nd.
Week of Sept 8th- This week we will finish working on open scenes. Eighth grade open scene projects are due on Tuesday, Sept 9th. Sixth and seventh grade projects are due Wednesday, Sept 10th. We will also be reviewing method acting notes as well as theatre/culture notes. TEST this week! 8th grade will test on Thursday, Sept 11. Sixth and seventh grade will test on Friday, Sept 12th. A study guide will be completed in class and sent home the night before the test.
Week of Sept 15th- This week all classes will begin working on a dialogue performance project. Eighth grade projects will be due on Monday, Sept 22nd. Sixth and seventh grade projects will be due on Tuesday, Sept 23rd. HOMEWORK: Students should be memorizing a section of their script each night.
Week of Sept 22nd- We will be finishing up our dialogue projects this week. We will also continue to develop character and scene development skills through improvisation and in-class creative writing assignments.
Week of Sept 29th- Eighth grade classes will be working on monologue performances this week. Monologues will be presented in class on Friday, Oct 3rd. Sixth and seventh grade classes will be writing creative stories about "The Old House". Sixth and seventh grade classes will begin monologue work by the end of the week.
Week of Oct 6th- Eighth grade students will begin writing an original one act play. The play must be inspired by a poetry selection of their choice. Students should have selected the poem and completed the planning process this week. Sixth and seventh grade students will finish up their monologue performances this week. Monologues are due on Wednesday, Oct 8th.
Week of Oct 13th- Eighth grade students will be working on writing the script for their original one act play. Once the script has been completed and approved, students will begin rehearsing the play. Sixth and seventh grade students will be working on improvisations that involve the use of body language to show characterization. They will also begin planning an original one act play. Sixth grade students will use a scene from their grade level novel, "The Lightning Thief". Seventh grade students will use poetry for their inspiration.
Week of Oct 20th- Eighth grade students will begin rehearsing their original plays. Students will be presenting the plays on Thursday, Oct 23rd. Sixth and seventh grade students will continue to write their plays in class this week. Final drafts of the script will be due at the beginning of class Wednesday, Oct 22nd. Sixth and seventh grade students will rehearse their plays in class Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Plays will be presented to the class on Monday, Oct 27th.
Week of Oct 27th- Eighth grade students will be working on combining body language and dialogue to improve character development. Sixth and seventh grade students will be presenting their original plays to the class this week. All classes will read several short mystery plays on Thursday and Friday.
Week of Nov 3rd- Students will be selecting and practicing their scene/play for our End of the Trimester performance on November 14th.
Week of Nov 10th- This week will be spent practicing and preparing for our end of the trimester performance on Friday, November 14th. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Invitations will be sent home this week. Performances will be during regular class time.
