Ms. Dustin's 1st Grade! Dear 1st Grade Families, In math we are wrapping up our fractions unit and going on to reading graphs! Please continue practicing counting coins!! with your child at home using real coins. Talk about how they look the same and different. Try to have your child count various coins at a time (starting with the coins that are worth the most). We are also beginning our weather unit! In writing, we are expanding on our writing by doing peer review as well as independent review for our stories. In Language Arts, we will continue working on our sight word poems and learn new sight words. In addition, we will continue learning new word families and words that we commonly see in our reading and use in our writing. For extra practice at home, have your child use the words in a story, letter, and/or a picture. I will be sending home the spring Scholastic Book Form. Please return this by April 5. Our class activation code is FZKR3 this will allow you to purchase books for your child online.Friendly SMS reminders: Homework- Please check your child's homework assignment book for specfic math pages, as well as the blue Parent/Teacher Communication Folder Monday- Read for 15 minutes Spelling- Write words 3 times each Math page Tuesday Read for 15 minutes Spelling- Write 5 sentences using spelling words Math page Wednesday Read for 15 minutes Spelling- Write 5 sentences using spelling words Math page Thursday Read for 15 minutes Spelling- Study words for the Spelling Test with a grown-up. Math page Friday Read for 15 minutes Have a great weekend!! Spelling Words: Please check your child's hw assignment book for their words. Word Wall Words we are practicing this week: Important Reminders! The colder weather has arrived, please make sure your child has a coat and proper accessories (hat/gloves) for outdoor recess each day. In addition, we walk to and from the Phelps Center to get to PE on Tuesdays and Fridays. This often takes place in rainy weather. Please have your child prepared for this with the appropriate attire. Please be sure to go over all the papers that go home with your child in thier Blue folder, as well as the YO folder. Also, make sure your child writes thier first/last name as well as the date, on thier homework. Students are to wear thier P.E. uniform on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please pack a healthy snack everyday for your child; we have snack at 10:25 am. Students may keep a water bottle at their cubby. Uniform Please be sure your child wears the correct uniform for each particular day. Wednesday and Thursdays are when the children wear their P.E. uniform; for the rest of the week, they wear their dress. As it begins to get chilly be sure your child brings in a jacket and/or sweatshirt for them to wear outside for morning and afternoon recess. You may also refer to the dress code policy located in the Parent/Student Handbook.
