Practical life— We are still developing our small muscles so we will be ready to grip our pencils correctly. We are using tongs, syringes and scoops. We will be learning how to button, zip, and Velcro. Sensorial—We are learning about cylinders, cubes ,rods, and spheres. We will be learning about texture, smooth and rough. We are going to learn about our five senses also. Language Arts—We will learn a new nursery rhyme, (The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe) It is printed below. Please practice it at home with your child. We are still learning the letters and their sounds. We are working on f, d, i, g, n. We are learning to write our names. Please help your child practice at home. We are writing in journals. We will learn to sing and spell the color brown. Math—We are learning to count objects to ten. We are learning to recognize the numerals 1—10. We are also rote counting to 20. Science—We will learn about mammals, harvest time, and hibernation. Cultural Studies—We are learning about the United States, South Carolina and Blacksburg. We will learn about different kinds of families and talk about our own families. The students that have not made a time line of their life will be making one this month. (If you made one last year we won’t do one this year) I need you to send me pictures of your child for each year of their life. (birth, 1year, 2 year, 3 year, etc…) You may want to make copies to send and not original photos. Upcoming Events Parent Teacher Conferences - November 3, 3:30—7:00 Character Dress Up Parade 8:30 Nov. 20th Election Day—November 4—No school! (Bring clothes to change into) Thanksgiving Holidays—Nov. 26th—28th Five Year Old Information - Five year olds will be bringing home paper books to read every Friday. Please let your child read it to you several times. They may keep the book. I am also sending home a list of sight words that you need to study with them until they know them all. These are words they cannot sound out. Practice counting by 10 and 5 to 100.
