![]() Welcome to Mrs. Chilelli's homepage. I joined the staff at China Grove Middle School last year, and have thoroughly enjoyed teaching in this close-knit community. With 30 years of experience in education, I have worked half of my career teaching middle school science and the other half working as an Educational Programs Manager in the U. S. Space Program at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Four years ago, my husband and I decided to leave Texas and move to North Carolina. We enjoy the changing seasons, the community, and the friendly people. Seventh grade science consists of many different topics including weather, climate, human body systems, genetics, and force and motion. Students will be exposed to these topics and others in a variety of ways. We begin class each day with a student-driven ATB, which stands for "At the Beginning". Students take turns composing the ATBs each day for the entire class. This not only helps the students review the topics we are currently studying, but also increases their confidence in their own abilities. Students are also incorporating the "12 Powerful Words" into their ATBs. These words are used daily to ultimately help students use higher order thinking skills which are also used on the EOGs. The 12 Powerful Words are: Trace Support Analyze Explain Infer Summarize Evaluate Compare Formulate Contrast Describe Predict We are currently studying genetics and heredity. Students will learn to complete a Punnett Square to accurately predict the probability of offspring inheriting specific traits. We also spend a great deal of time talking about family genetics and traits the students may have inherited from each parent. My hope is that parents and students will e-mail me with any questions or concerns. Communication is a key component to being successful in and out of the classroom. My main focus is encouraging my students to recognize their own strengths, and to 'dream big' about their future. ******************************************************** |
