Mrs. Nester's Third Grade Notes

Please continue to practice multiplication at home with your child. Also, start practicing the division facts. We are having weekly quizzes!

McHarg participates in several national fund raisers including General Mills' Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Labels for Education.  Please copy and paste this address in your browser to find out more: http://www.rcps.org/mch/FundRaisers.htm

CONTACT INFORMATION FOR ME:

Please feel free to call the office (731-3652) and leave a message; or email me at dnester@rcps.org about any question/concerns about your child.

I usually check email before students arrive in my class at 8:25 and again after school around 3:30. If something needs my immediate attention--PLEASE send a note with your child for him/her to hand me first thing in the morning.

LUNCH is 12:00-12:25, please join your child for lunch anytime you would like. If you wish me to order a lunch for you, have your child tell me the morning of your visit.

HANDWRITING: We are writing everything possible in cursive.  Continue to practice both letters and connections on written homework, and for any trouble areas I mark on a paper or that you notice on papers.

Speling List and Test for week of May 11- 15, 2009

SPELLING: Test will be each Friday. The focus this week is  " words with -ed or -ing".

If there is a change, it will be noted on the assignment sheet early in the week. The new list will be given out each Monday to students. It is to be kept in the KEEP section of their binder for use at home during the week. The list of words can also be found in the back of your child's reading book if needed.

LANGUAGE/GRAMMAR: We are working on reviewing all parts of speeck and other grammar skills.

READING: This week's story is "More Than Anything Else". The skill lesson focus is  "Author's Purpose". The vocabulary words and the skill for the story are found prior to the story in the textbook. Remember the spelling words are located at the back of the book. Your child is WELCOME to bring home the reading text each night as long as it is returned daily for class use. (This is the same for any of the text books.)

MATH: Reviewing all skills.  We are also working on multiplying larger digits and dividing with a remainder.

Students should know all multiplication facts 0-10's and 11's.  We are having timed tests on a regular basis, several a week.

Please be working on tables at home.  It would be helpful to have flash cards for practice.  Also use the math sites below or those on McHarg portaportal.

SCIENCE: Students are in Chapter 6 "Fast/Slow Changes on Land".  Study all notes.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Reviewing government for quiz.  Also reviewing famous Americans.

 REMINDERS:

*Please check your child's binder and folder each night. The folder should be inside the binder--either at the front or back. The assignment sheet should be on the LEFT side of the folder and everything else on the right side.

*Daily work and graded papers may be taken out EACH night.

*Please send HOMEWORK back in the folder (along with the assignment sheet) for the next day.

*The ASSIGNMENT SHEET SHOULD STAY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FOLDER ALL WEEK. It is to be turned in to me EVERY Friday. Feel free to write any note/communication on it (I will do the same). Please remind your child to show me the next morning any note on the assignment sheet. I would like for the assignment sheet to be signed daily.

*Also, it is helpful to check the book bag daily--No loose papers should be in the book bag--EVERY PAPER SHOULD BE IN THE BINDER OR FOLDER.

TOGETHER WE CAN!!!

We continue to have very busy fun days in third grade.
