Whitaker's Winners Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Reminders: If your child stays cold, please remember to send a light jacket or sweater with him/her. I do allow these in the room.
No MONKEY business!! School begins at 7:40!!
Please remember to send a water bottle EVERYDAY! Please do not freeze these and make sure NOT to put them in the backpack with books. I encourage students to drink throughout the day. No Gatorade or juice in the classroom. We will enjoy these at recess.
Lunch: Our lunch time is at 10:45. Please join us anytime!! Remember NO OUTSIDE RESTURANT FOOD wrappers OR CARBONATED DRINKS allowed. This is an opportunity for you to enjoy what our cafeteria has to offer. F.R.O.G.S. Notebook ~ Please remember check the binder nightly to ensure that you have checked over your child's homework AND listened to him/her read aloud for 15-20 minutes. .
This week:
September 19-23
Reading: We will be reading City Green. Skills for the week: context clues, drawing conclusions, and cause and effect. Vocabulary words: area- a particular space, region, or section excitement-the condition of being excited halfway- to or at the half distance heap- a collection of things piled together schedule- the time at which something is supposed to happen stems- the main part of a plant that supports the leaves and flowers Reading comprehension and vocabulary test: Wednesday We will read the story in class Monday and Tuesday before testing. I will also send home the reader each night for students who might need more reading opportunities with their weekly story. “Cold Turkey” Test: Wednesday Spelling Test: Friday. Spelling Words: open, battle, even, candle, frozen, carrots, silent, lazy, lettuce, maple, fellow, fifty, flavor, bottle, floppy, area, excitement, halfway, heap, schedule, and stems. Language: This week, we will work on plural nouns Friday: Nouns Test Math: This week, we will begin topic 3. Please make sure you continue to review place value, addition properties, rounding, and estimating. All of these will be important in both adding and subtracting. We continue to mention them in class, but I'm not able to reteach it weekly. In order for our kids to move on, they must retain this information. Monday: Review Topic 3-1 Tuesday: Topic 3-2 Wednesday: Topic 3-4 Thursday: Review Friday: Math test Science: We will discuss life cycles.
