Mrs. René Joyner's Class Notes
Welcome to 4- year old kindergarten! Thank you for visiting my school notes page. Please feel free to e-mail me at any time with any of your questions or concerns. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following are the ground rules for our class:
Please discuss the importance of rules and procedures at home with your child. Our goal is to maintain a safe, student-centered learning environment, in which all children feel safe and accepted. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Research has proven not all students learn at the same rate nor by the same learning modalities. The Montessori philosophy is an individualized approach to hands-on learning, in which children are able to learn at their own pace and by a variety of sensory experiences. The role of the teacher is to follow the child and to assess their individual needs. In a Montessori classroom, lessons are given on an individual basis. Therefore, not all children are learning the same academic concepts at the same time. However, in our classroom we spend time together as a group each day exploring and discussing our weekly classroom themes. For example: North America, Our Five Senses, Feelings, The Solar System, etc. Each Montessori lesson is designed to promote independence among children. Throughout the year we will work on self-responsibility skills such as washing our hands, preparing our own snack foods, and cleaning up after ourselves during work time and after lunch. To help your child gain independence and confidence, please allow your child to do as many things at home as possible. Some examples include: dress themselves, prepare their own snacks, pour their own drinks, pick up their own toys, etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please remember to check your child's folder each day. Their folder will serve as an open communication line for us. Important school information and personal notes will be sent home to you via this folder. Please feel free to send information to me through your child's communication folder as needed. Your child's folder is checked daily. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Montessori Daily Schedule 8:00-8:05- Morning Announcements 8:05-9:05- Individual Work Time/ Open Snack 9:05-9:15- Clean-Up Work Areas 9:15-9:30- Group Line-Time 9:30-10:00- Outside Play 10:00-10:15- Music and Movement 10:15-10:30- bathroom break
