**Please check your child's planner frequently. *** Please note that I do not post daily assignments on my website, as they frequently change. Students are required to copy down the daily actions and homework in their planners EACH DAY IN CLASS. Make up work for absent students can be requested 24 hours in advance of pick-up, or students can check the class calendar upon their return for work missed. OBJECTIVE: Students will study the geography of the world and its people. The focus will primarily be on Western geography and cultures. Lesson Plans: The daily assignments and homework are posted on the board when the students come in. Students are to copy all the daily assignments AND homework into their planner when they enter my room. If they are absent, they can copy their assignments from the calendar when they return from their absence. All work must be completed in pencil or in dark blue or black ballpoint pen and have a proper heading. No credit will be given if a student turns in homework not completed in pencil or blue/black ink. Late homework is subject to the late assignment policy below. LEE COUNTY GRADE SCALE: A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 0-59 LATE WORK POLICY: You are responsible for YOUR work! MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: It is your responsibility to get all assignments missed during your absence. The daily assignments will be listed on the calendar located next to the make-up work box. You have the same number of days as which you were absent, plus one to complete any make-up work. Make-up work to be turned in should be put in the bin labeled for your class's period. SUPPLIES: PAPER PENCIL COLORED PENCILS All student class work must be done in pencil or blue or black ballpoint pen ONLY. Written essay assignments to be turned in must be done in pen or typed. Students will not be able to turn in work done in colored pens, gel pens, colored pencils, etc. Also, note that permanent markers such as Sharpies are not allowed on school property. Any permanent markers brought on school grounds will be confiscated. GRADING: Students will have various assignments to turn in including worksheets, questions, etc. Each of these assignments will count as one daily work grade. In-class participation grades also will count as one daily work grade. Students will have periodic short quizzes equal to one daily work grade. Tests are equal to two daily work grades and will be given at the end of chapters or units. Students will also be assigned a project to complete each semester. The projects will count as three test grades. Students will have the opportunity to earn passes for extra credit points. PLANNERS: Every day, students will be required to write the day's assignments and homework in their planner. To encourage parents to remain involved in their child's education, periodic planner checks will occur for parent signatures. Signatures will count towards earning extra credit points and/or homework passes. The planner will also be the PRIMARY method for contacting parents for minor issues such as (but not limited to) warnings, missing assignments, and requests for meetings. PARENT INVOLVEMENT: Mariner Middle strongly encourages parents to be a large part of their child's education. In order for parents to keep track of student progress, students will be encouraged to have their planner signed daily (see "Planners" above) and to get parent signatures on all quizzes and tests with a grade of lower than 70. Additionally, I will occasionally write comments for the parents in the planner that will also require a signature. Any major concerns that need to be addressed will be done so through phone calls, e-mails, or parent conferences. As always, I strongly encourage parents to contact me with any concerns they may have via one of the methods listed at the top of the page, or to arrange for a parent conference. |
