A. Objectives:
1. Cite Mrs. Downey's "What Atoms Want" guidelines.
2. Explain the "motive" behind an atom's gain or loss of electrons.
3. Relate that an atoms gain or loss of electrons determines its oxidation number.
B. Activities: 1. Bell work: Please copy the "What Atoms Want" info from the board. 2. Use the "I can relate to that" strategy to convey that atoms achieve full valence shells the "laziest" way possible. 3. Use songs to help students remember the "What Atoms Want" rules.
C. Assignment: Electron gain or loss sheet.
D. Evaluation: Students have complete notes and score 70% or > on assignment.

1. Explain how an ionic bond forms.
2. Draw ionic bond using oxidation numbers and e-dot diagrams.
B. Activities: 1. Bell work: Graph the data and answer the questions. 2.
