VALENTINE'S DAY!

    Look for a homework sheet inside their homework folder.  Homework will be completed on a nightly basis.  Please check over your child's work and discuss what they have learned each day at school.  Don't forget to sign their agenda each night.  Look for a stamp as a sign of good behavior.  We are having a wonderful second grade year.  Please come by and have lunch with us anytime at 11:20.

What We're Doing At School:

*Reading -  The Great Ball Game

Cause and Effect

Comparing Animals & Birds

Comprehension Strategies/UNRAAVEL

Spelling - Words with long /o/ (oa,ow)

*Writing   - We will be writing about a fun time we've had in the snow.  We will learn a new map to help us organize our thoughts for our stories.

*Math - Subtraction with Regrouping

-using place value blocks to understand why we regroup

-understanding what it means to borrow a 10

Social Studies - We will begin a unit on landforms next week!!!

Science - We will try to finish up our penguins unit and venture into learning about geography.

**Students have received their new reading range and goal for 3rd quarter.  Let's have 100% meet their goal this quarter!!!

BOOK IT coupons are also being given to our outstanding readers with excellent comprehension.

Each child received a reading log on Friday that included their reading range for this quarter as well as their reading goal.  AR books should be returned to school each day and your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes a day.  Please listen to your child read nightly and sign their reading log.

REMINDERS

*Continue to check/sign your child's homework agenda each night. Make sure they follow the directions written in their agenda and have their NAME on all homework.

*LUNCH MONEY
Your child has an account in the cafeteria that you can put money into. Anytime you send money, make sure it is in an envelope with your child's name, pin number, and teacher's name on it. Our lunch time is 11:20-11:50. If you plan to eat with your child, go by the office and sign in first before coming to the room. We look forward to seeing you at lunch one day!

ENHANCEMENT SCHEDULE

Our class is split amongst the other second grade classes for enhancements this year.  We now have two ART, PE, and MUSIC teachers this year.  Please make sure your child has on proper shoes for their PE day.
