Way to Go Savannah & Hannah!!  Their SCHOOL BUS SAFETY posters were chosen as County Winners and will move onto the State!!  Congratulations on your terrific job!

    We have  been having lots of fun here at school and we hope that each of you enjoyed a nice Mother's Day.  The children LOVED pampering you all at the MOMMY DAY SPA last week.   We sure have had a fun year and are looking forward to spending these last few weeks together.  Please remind your student to be on his or her best behavior each and every day.  We are picking up our pace of learning to accomplish all that we need by the end of the year.   The LAST set of 25 will be sent home this week to start practicing.   The first test on these words will be on Wed. May 23rd.   Many students have even successfully spelled many of the third and fourth grade words correctly as well.  Make sure to check out our IMPORTANT DATES to see what else we have planned for the month.    Please check over your child's assignments and watch for any problem areas.  Communication is key  in order to be successful, so please stay up to date with what is going on at school through your child's agenda and Tuesday Folder.  Second grade is full of many exciting learning opportunities and we can't wait to get started.  Thanks for sharing your child with us each and everyday!!

What We're Doing At School:

Compare/Contrast Real to Fractured Fairy Tales

*Writing - Students will be writing letters to a first grader to tell them all about the fun they will have next year in 2nd grade!

*Math - 

-Multiplication using Repeated Addition

-Making Multiplication Booklets

**Students will receive a CD of (X) songs to practice over the summer!

Science -  We will continue our unit on ANIMALS this week by completing individual research projects on an animal of choice.  Students will complete a concept web map and make a poster.  We will use the iPADS to help us research our animal.

Social Studies -  Scholastic News Review

Reading Logs - WE ARE OFF TO A GREAT START WITH OUR READING LOGS!! AS A CLASS WE HAVE READ FOR OVER  3,500  MILES SO FAR-WAY TO GO!!!

** READING MINUTES TURNED INTO MILES FOR RACE TO READ  PROGRAM!!**  (15 minutes = 1 mile)

  Each child is required to read at least 20 minutes every night.  Please record the title of the book, how many pages were read, and minutes read.  A set of reading conferencing questions will be kept in your students reading baggie to practice at home.  Students will be conferenced with on their book choice everyday.  We will be keeping a tally of how many minutes are read each week.  Each second grade class will keep track of their reading minutes in the cafeteria.  Let's watch our reading minutes soar high!  Students will earn a book charm after every five hours of reading.  These reading logs will be checked daily!

REMINDERS

*Continue to check/sign your child's homework agenda each night. Make sure they follow the directions written in their agenda and have their NAME on all homework.

*LUNCH MONEY
Your child has an account in the cafeteria that you can put money into. Anytime you send money, make sure it is in an envelope with your child's name, pin number, and teacher's name on it. Our lunch time is 10:30-11:00. If you plan to eat with your child, go by the office and sign in first before coming to the room. We look forward to seeing you at lunch one day!
