I think we are off to a great start! I look forward to working with you and your student! One way for us to communicate is through the planner that the school has provided to your child. My expectation is that it will be used every day in class to record what Social Studies homework he/she has, it will be taken home every night and looked at to remind he/she of what homework needs to be completed that night, and then it will be brought back to school the next day. I am excited about this school year and I am confident it will be a successful year for all of us. I hope everyone had a great time at North Bay last week. It has been an interesting transition back into the swing of things at CHMS. The pace will natural pick up from here. Classroom rules and routines will be reviewed for all. The expectation is that students will quickly resume those routines. If students never got into/are having difficulty getting back into the routine, other methods may be required (such as lunch detentions, after school detentions, referrals to Guidance/Administration and/or conferences with parents). The hope is that ESTABLISHING GOOD HABITS WILL HELP LEAD STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE EVEN MORE SUCCESS IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM! Important Notices/Upcoming Events: Friendly's Night 5 - 9pm fundraiser to benefit PBIS; AFTERSCHOOL HELP SESSION ON THURSDAYS FROM 2:35 - 4:00...JUST SEND A NOTE IN WITH YOUR STUDENT THAT SAYS THEY HAVE YOUR PERMISSION TO STAY AND THAT THEY WILL BE PICKED UP AT 4:00. Homework: I apologize for not updating information. I am still having difficulties accessing schoolnotes during working hours from CHMS. I will continue to use schoolnotes until my wikispace is set up as an alternative place to post homework. I will be sending information home with your student in the near future. Of course the best way to keep track of homework is for your student to write it down in their planner and refer to it on a daily basis. (updated 9/28/10) Oct. 7 - No homework; If you are going on the field trip tomorrow...listen to the weather forecast so you can dress appropriately for the day, wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a bagged lunch or money to buy lunch (around $10), and remember we will not be getting back to the school until around 4:30. I will model what students are to do by giving them an example. The expectation is that they are to then practice their time management skills to continue working on the assignment. I am allowing amble time for students to accurately complete the assignment during class. Sept. 28 - Students who received less than a 70% on their Unit 1 Vocabulary Post-Assessment (Quiz) will be allowed to retake it; Block 3 on Thursday at lunch, Block 1 on Friday at lunch and Block4 on Friday at lunch. Students were given instructions today in class on what they must do. They will need to let me know before their lunch on the retake day so I can give them a pass. They will need to report to the cafeteria, show their pass to the adult who is supervising the cafeteria, sign out, and then report to my room. They will need to multi-task (eat their lunch while taking the quiz) because once lunch is over they must turn in their quiz finished or not. We revisited the Neolithic Revolution CR today. Some students had time during class to begin their revisions. Students who received less than a 70% were strongly encouraged to make corrections and resubmit their work (old and new stapled together). Students have until this Friday to resubmit their work.
