Kindergarten Letter January 5, 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Mrs.Vulcan and I hope you and your family had a very safe and happy holiday season. We wish to thank you for all your generosity for the Christmas gifts, and appreciate your thoughtfulness. Your child may bring in one item they received for Christmas that will fit in their backpack on Friday, January 9th for a special Show and Tell. Please discuss with your child, if he/she is in aftercare, the importance of leaving the item in the backpack until returning home. Thanks!
Please check out the school website for the monthly calendar, the monthly menu and the newsletter for January. The school web address is: www.icschoolweb.org.Registration forms are on the website under “Other Forms”. This Thursday is Special Persons Lunch for 4th grade. Only the hot lunch for the day will be served: breaded chicken, parsley potatoes, corn, cole slaw, and graham cracker pie. On Monday Jan. 19th school will be closed in observance of Martin LutherKing, Jr. Day. Catholic Schools Week will be from Jan. 25th through Jan.31st. Interims will be distributed onTuesday, Jan. 20th. Interims are sent home if your child is going to receive an“I” or a “N” in any subject area. On the next report card for the second trimester, the children will be assessed on their personal information which includes their name, phone number, and address – house number and street, city and state. They will also be assessed on buttoning, zipping, snapping, and if they can tie their shoes. Please work on these at home for additional homework.
The letter of the week is Rr. The students will listen for the beginning sound of the letter /r/ as in: rabbit, rope, radio, robot, rocket, rose, ring, ruby, ribbon, rain, robin. The ending sound of /r/ will be covered this week as well as in: bear, finger, teacher, near, tiger, car. We will continue to work on comprehension skills and rhyming words.
In math we will conclude the unit on numbers 6-10. In completing the unit, students will solve problems by counting and graphing various items and learn how to make one more and one fewer by adding or subtracting one item.
Religion will focus on Jesus as a teacher and how we learn to live by stories from the bible and by listening to Jesus.
In Science we will begin a new unit on earth science. This week we will look at soil and rocks. If you have some rocks to bring in to share we would enjoy the variety.
Have a good week! Mrs. Broomall
