Please help your child to understand that ART is not a recess, circus, fun-time, or free-for-all!!!!! These are perceptions of art that must be dispelled!!!!!!!

We have a state-designed curriculum to cover....



I TEACH MY ART CURRICULUM, WHEN POSSIBLE, "THROUGH" THE ACADEMIC STUDIES. IT'S A PRACTICE THAT I FEEL 1) PROMOTES A BROADER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PERIOD OF HISTORY THEY ARE STUDYING IN SOC. ST., OR

2)GIVES THEM APPLICATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CONCEPTS THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT IN SCIENCE OR MATH....



6TH GRADE IS GOING TO BEGIN MAKING A BOOKLET ABOUT ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME.



7TH GRADE IS GOING TO CREATE PAPIER-MACHE' AFRICAN TRIBAL MASKS.



8TH GRADE IS GOING TO "WEAVE" AS THEY STUDY ABOUT NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS.



Please remind your child that cooperation and good classroom manners will be important as we tackle these complex projects. None of us want clothing ruined by paint or wheatpaste...because of playfulness!!!!!!! I AM ALSO ASKING MY 3RD PERIOD 7TH GRADERS TO BRING AN OLD SHIRT TO COVER AND PROTECT THEIR UNIFORMS!!!!



PLEASE DONATE BOTTLE CAPS, FEATHERS, YARN, BEADS, JEWELS OR OLD JEWELRY, STRING, EMBROIDERY FLOSS, FABRIC, ETC. THAT YOU MAY HAVE AROUND TO HOUSE!!
