Welcome to our Second Grade webpage!

                  Student of the Week

This year the "Student of the Week" theme is to design the front page of a newspaper.  Each child is asked to obtain a large sheet of paper or poster board. Complete the idea sheets that were sent home and attach them to your poster. Be creative and include some of your own elements. Each poster is designed to encourage children to get to know each other on a different level, to celebrate what makes each of us unique, as well as teach organizational skills.

Please return your poster to school on the first school day of your weekly activities. On the following days we will be doing...

Monday/Tuesday--"Student of the Week" Poster and Book.  The children will show and summarize their favorite book.

Wednesday--"I am good at..."  Share a team

picture, trophy, drawing, invention, lego invention, a magic show, etc. You may teach the class a board game, a card game, a dance, etc.

Thursday--Bring in a show-and-tell item to share with the class. (Usually held at 2:30 P.M.)

Friday--Share your favorite snack with the class. (Usually shared at 1:55 P.M.)

Monthly Book-it Directions:

  • During October through March, the children are asked to read 1 book a month such as a picture book or a chapter book.
  • Parents may read to the child, with the child, or take turns enjoying the text.  Some children may want to read the book independently.
  • A few days before the end of the month finish reading the book, and complete the "verification form" with a parent signature.  Color and cut out the train form before returning it to school.  All book-its and verification forms are graded as a test.  It is imperative that they are returned by the last day of the month.
