Welcome to Mrs. Swinson's

Curriculum Assistance Class!

The Year is underway...

Students have received Report Card grades and have a good idea of where we need to focus for the next few weeks! Please let me know if you have anything that needs attention or completion!

My class is set up to follow all components of student IEP's. I work closely with classroom teachers to make sure that students are successful both within and outside of all class settings. Students can receive assistance in my classroom for areas related to their IEP goals and objectives.

I have a structured daily routine that is listed below. This may be varied depending on student need and progress. We will use time wisely to best strengthen areas of need while maintaining all strong areas.

All students are required to have a Planner where they can write home assignments/projects/upcoming events. This is a MUST! This is a great tool to keep track of assignments, tests and projects as well as Early Release days and holidays. It will be a requirement in my class this year to keep track of all classes they attend. This will be factored into the grade for my class. Also, they cannot leave the classroom without their Planner.

Weekly Routine:

Mondays - Written Expression

Tuesdays - Reading Comprehension

Wednesdays - Home/class assignments

Thursdays - Vocabulary/Grammar

Fridays - Math computation/calculations

*Shedules will change when needed to adjust to student need or follow current classroom concepts from other classes. Students will receive time for assistance with homework/assignments when needed.

I am willing to stay after school with my students as long as I have notice at least a week in advance. I will gladly stay and offer assistance with work from any class.

I do not require materials for my class. Students need a pencil each day and are welcome to bring a notebook or folder of their choice to use for my classwork.

I use an incentive program in my classroom where students earn points for grades, behavior and progress. They exchange points for small prizes or treats monthly.

After School Tutorial:

I will be staying after school one day per week to work on areas of need with my students. Parents, please look for a  permisson slip from your child. Only students with the permisson slip signed will be eligible to stay. We will work on Math and Language Arts areas from 3:30-4:30 and students will need to be picked up promptly at 4:30.

Students keep up the good work and remember to take your planner to all classes with you. All students are required to write down assignments in each class, each day. This is part of their grade in my class. It helps the transition to high school go much more smoothly as well.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. I would be glad to meet with you if needed. I can quickly return E-mail during the day from school. Phone calls will usually not be returned until the end of the school day or the following morning.
