Welcome to St. Theresa Kindergarten

Summer  2010

I am not really sure what happened to my end of school year June entry.  I had thanked Michele Linsky for organizing our Boxtops ice cream party and for Jenny Yusella who actully set up and helped give out the ice cream.  We picked one of the hottest afternoons so it turned out to be an extra nice treat for all of us!  I also thanked Debbie Anderson for taking charge of the class gifts for Mrs. Anderson and myself.  She was able to purchase gift cards to the Promenade  (which is my favorite place to shop) adding a plant, coffee, chocolate, and her exceptional homemade peanut brittle all packaged in a very cute basket.  Please know that all of you made us feel so appreciated all year long.  We've already told Mrs. Jamann numerous times what a great group of parents are in store for her!

Each year we measure the students during the first and last weeks of school.  Everyone gets taller (except Mrs. Anderson and me!) by at least one inch.  We had five children who actually grew three inches - Abbie, Alex, Dmitry, Johanna, and Mountain. When we see the first graders in the fall we are always amazed at just how grown up they all look.

Well here's my July update:

I hope your summer vacation has been a nice change of pace - not too hectic and full of family fun.  I have been quite busy travelling with my own family.  We were down at the University of Delaware for Colleen's orientation and also visited Kevin in Greenville, SC where he is spending his summer working on a finance internship for GE.

In between I was able to get to the beach and also take a wonderful vacation with my extended family - brothers, sister, in-laws and lots of nieces and nephews.  I am very fortunate because I will be able to get back to the beach for another week in August.  Summer is perfect time for me to unwind and recharge my battery for the school year ahead!

On July 26, there is the feast day for grandparents, Sts. Joachim and St. Anne (Jesus' grandparents).  I found a prayer for children that you might encourage your child to recite:

Good, St. Anne, you must have loved your parents just like I love my mom and dad.   They love me so much and take care of all my needs.  Help me to make them happy each day by listening and obeying.  Thank you, dear Grandmother of Jesus, for hearing this prayer. Amen.

(You could have your child then say a prayer for his/her own grandparents).

Dividends for Life: Faith, Knowledge, Discipline, Morals

For those of you who have re-registered your child(ren) for the 2010 -2011 school year, we thank you for putting your trust in us. As a faith-filled professional, committed faculty and staff be assured that we will continue to instill these four pillars of Catholic education as well as impart a strong academic foundation within our  daily teaching lessons.

We have been learning how to read and write  words. You can practice with your child at home if he/she knows all of the alphabet letters. Try using magnetic letters on a tin cookie sheet or a small dry erase board to make it more fun.

               GENERAL  INFORMATION

Please initial behavior calendar each day.

Communication folders go home on Wednesdays and should be returned on Thursdays.

We do not ordinarily go into the backpacks, so if you have something to return, please make sure it is either in the folder or tell your child to give it to us.

Library Day is Tuesday, so please make sure books are returned by then or your child may not be able to take out another book. This can be upsetting for your child when the rest of the children are checking out their new books.

The Family Times booklet will be now used as one of the nightly assignments.  As homework it should be completed and returned the next day.  It corresponds with what we are doing in class and it's a great language/literacy tool for reinforcement.

Each child needs to bring in a morning snack everyday even if he/she is buying the school lunch and not carrying a lunch box that day. Drinks are 50ยข; we do recommend the yearly or monthly milk card. The afternoon snack money is used for the snacks as well as for food related paper products such as napkins and plates.

Is your child's education just another purchase or do you see it as the gift of a God-centered  foundation of academics - as something that will last a lifetime?

The power of prayer in an educational setting is tremendous. You will  have the opportunity to provide a quality education only once and those basics begin now.
