2009 - 2010 From: Love For A Lifetime (James Dobson) "There are very few certainties that touch us all in this mortal existence, but one of the absolutes is that we will experience hardship and stress at some point."
"In the world you shall have tribulation: be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33
Kindergarten is and should be a happy place. I recently attended my Lehigh sorority reunion where I hadn't seen many of my Alpha Gam sisters in 30 years! When I told them that I am still teaching in a Catholic school and have been in Kindergarten for the past 12 years, I received such affirming and genuinely heartwarming responses. Many of these woman are in the business world, some in very high powered positions, yet they found the fact that I work day in and day out with five and six- year olds in our own little magical world quite interesting, but not surprising. They actually did seem a bit envious for the simplicity my vocation holds for me.
We did some apple math at the end of September after spending time learning all about Johnny Appleseed. These are the results of our sorting and measuring activities:
We had 6 varieties - Gala, Granny Smith, Red & Yellow Delicious, MacIntosh, and Honey Crisp. Abbie had the tallest; Vivian had the roundest, and Robert had the smallest.
All of the apples were eaten and greatly enjoyed! Thanks for sending one in.
Vocabulary Sight Words We are beginning to learn how to read and write some words. You can practice with your child at home if he/she knows all of the alphabet letters. Try using magnetic letters on a tin cookie sheet or a small dry erase board to make it more fun. and are can go is like my school the to we you
Color Words: (recognize for reading)
red orange blue green white
brown yellow purple black pink
Kindergarteners Say the Darndest Things
Little children are naturally very funny for a variety of reasons. From time to time I will share some of the things that Mrs. Anderson and I hear or overhear during the day.
- Child: "Mrs. Kelly, can you walk on water? " Mrs. Kelly: "No, I don't think so."
Child: I can! You need about 5 gallons of water and 10 gallons of corn starch. My neighbor had to chisel me out with a chisel and sledge hammer."
Mrs. Kelly: Wow! What were those numbers again? Maybe I can ask your mom when I see her."
Child: Oh - my mom and sisters don't know that I can walk on water, though.
Mrs. Kelly: Hmmm, certainly sounds like a lot of fun!
Child: It is - just so you know if you try it, your sneakers get really dirty.
- "I learned how to whistle at ballet."
- "Do you know why I take my wallet to lunch? It has credit cards in it."

Communication folders go home on Wednesdays and should be returned on Thursdays. We do not ordinarily go into the backpacks, so if you have something to return, please make sure it is either in the folder or tell your child to give it to us. Library Day is Tuesday, so please make sure books are returned by then or your child may not be able to take out another book. This can be upsetting for your child when the rest of the children are checking out their new books. Each child needs to bring in a morning snack everyday even if he/she is buying the school lunch and not carrying a lunch box that day. Drinks are 50ยข; we do recommend the yearly or monthly milk card. The afternoon snack money is used for the snacks as well as for food related paper products such as napkins and plates. Is your child's education just another purchase or do you see it as the gift of a God-centered foundation of academics - as something that will last a lifetime?
The power of prayer in an educational setting is tremendous. You will have the opportunity to provide a quality education only once and those basics begin now. We commend you on your choice of St. Theresa's School for your child. Now that's an investment in your child's eternal life, and isn't that really what it is all about ?
