SENIORS IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

*UC APPLICANTS -- If you haven’t done so already, you must arrange for your official test scores to be sent to each UC campus you have applied to. You can do this in two ways:

1. If you have completed all of your testing, go to either www.collegeboard.com and/or www.actstudent.org and click on the "send scores" link. Then list each UC campus (and any other schools you are applying to which require test scores) to receive those scores. YOU MUST ARRANGE FOR YOUR SCORES TO BE SENT THIS WEEK OR THEY WILL NOT ARRIVE IN TIME TO BE CONSIDERED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RUSH SCORES.

For the CSU's you may use the code 3594 and this will send your scores to ALL CSU's for only 1 fee of $9.50.

2. If you are planning on taking any of the December tests, you must list each of your UC campuses on the registration form for this test. For the SAT or SAT subject tests, you can go to www.collegeboard.com and update your December test registration form to include all of the UC campuses. For the ACT, go to www.actstudent.org and click on "make changes to your registration." You can also make changes by calling 319/337-1270.

*Students will receive acknowledgment of their UC application by e-mail four to five weeks after they submit their applications. The acknowledgment will include the student’s application ID number, which should be referenced in any correspondence with UC. Students also can go to Application Status website (https://www.ucapplication.net/ucap/ ), and review their personal and background information, their choices of campus and major, and their test scores.

*While the Application Status website allows prospective students to revise parts of their applications, those who wish to apply to additional campuses must send their request in writing to: University of California Undergraduate Application Processing Service, P.O. Box 4010, Concord, CA 94524-4010. They should include their application ID number, Social Security number, the campus or campuses to which they want to apply, and a check or money order for $60 for each additional campus ($70 for international applicants), payable to the Regents of the University of California.

*Students should also research the University’s scholarship opportunities, including those associated with individual campuses. While many scholarships are automatic, and awarded on the basis of information students provide in the application for admission, some scholarships require supplemental applications or other documentation.

For more information, see the Scholarship Opportunities web page at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/scholarships.html.

CSU APPLICANTS -- If you are applying to any Cal State campuses, you are required to take the ELM and the EPT tests (assessment tests in math and English). You are exempt from the EPT (English assessment) test if your SAT Critical Reading score is 550 or above, if your ACT English score is 24 or above or you have a score of 3, 4 or 5 on either the AP Language and Composition or AP Literature and Composition test. You are exempt from the ELM (math assessment) test if your SAT math reasoning test score or SAT subject test math score is 550 or above or your ACT math score is 23 or above or your AP test score in AP Calculus or AP Statistics is 3 or above. You can take these tests at any Cal State campus. Student Checklist for October:

 Seniors Register for December 6th SAT’s. Seniors the last test date accepted for Fall admissions is the December test. Do NOT request “score choice” if you are planning to apply for 2008 admission. Registration deadline is Nov 5th. SAT registration bulletins and test prep materials are available in the College & Career Center and/or Counseling Office. You can also register online at www.collegeboard.com . To apply for a fee waiver see Ms. Fabela in the counseling office.
 ACT test takers should register for the December 13th ACT’s by November 7th. Seniors applying to UC campuses, the last test date accepted for Fall admissions is the December test. You can register online at www.act.org . College of Alameda is an ACT test site.
 Juniors Register to take the PSAT!!: The test will be given at Alameda High on Saturday, Oct 18th. The cost is $20, and can be paid at the school bank. Sophomores may also register.
 Think extra curricular! School clubs and activities, volunteer service, athletics and the arts are an important part of your student resume. Colleges, scholarship committees, and employers want to know how you spend your time outside of class. Find an organization or activity that you will enjoy contributing your time and energy to and stick with it. Two or three years with the same activity or organization are much more impressive than lots of different, unrelated activities.
 Attend presentations from college and specialty schools in the AHS College & Career Center or at information nights. Many schools schedule high school visits and/or region-wide information nights. These presentations are a chance to ask questions of admissions representatives. Often the person you talk to will be one of those reading and evaluating your application for admission.
 Citywide College Night is Thursday, October 16th, from 6:00-8:00 PM in the College of Alameda gymnasium. Over 65 colleges, specialty schools, technical/vocational schools, and military academies will send representatives to talk to students and parents. This FREE event is highly recommended for sophomores through seniors and their parents.
 Work hard to get the best grades you can! Junior year is the year you prove what you can do. This is especially important if your performance was weak in the past; realizing that students mature at different rates, admissions committees often give greater weight to junior and senior year performance.
Seniors:
 Narrow your application list. Ideally you should now have 6 or 8 schools you are planning to apply to for Fall 2009 admission. Some should be a bit of a stretch, some a perfect fit, and some whose admissions standards you exceed. Remember, the most important criteria are the how well the school’s programs, culture, and environment meet your needs. If you are not this far along in your search, don’t despair but don’t delay! Use the free college search sites and your College & Career Center and Counseling Office to help you with the selection process.
 Visit the schools you are considering applying to. Brochures can’t give you the flavor of a school; you need to walk the campus, eat the food and check out the facilities for yourself.
 Request applications from private and out of state schools you are interested in. Most schools have their admissions applications available online. You can also pick up applications when you visit the campus or telephone the admissions office and request a copy sent to you. UC and CSU applications will be available online the first week of October. (www.csumenter.edu & www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply %
