EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY – Up to 5% of your grade.  

My blog website http://jstrebler.blogspot.com/ has a number of lengthy essays on controversial issues related to economics, history, politics, religion, ethics and education. If you find one that interests you, write a critique of the essay.  Be sure to look at the archives, where most of the essays can be found.  

To earn extra credit, you must respond to the specific points and evidence in the essay.  You may, of course, also mention other points that are relevant, but DON'T just babble on about your opinion on the topic without responding to what the essay says.  DON'T just say the essay was great, or it sucked, or whatever without giving specific reasons why you say that.  If you do those things (babble, don't respond to specific points in the essay), you will get zero extra credit. 

Submit a hard-copy of your critique to the instructor, AND post a short summary of your comments on the website.  You must do both to earn extra credit.  The amount of extra credit you earn depends on the difficulty of the essay you critique, and the quality and length of your critique.  Typical critiques earn 10-15 points extra credit, but some earn more and some less.  There is no limit on the number of essays you can critique for extra credit, so put on your thinking cap and boost your grade!  (Total extra credit earned cannot exceed 5% of your grade) Deadline for extra credit submissions: Lunch, on Tuesday, May 29
