Week of January 5-9:
Friday: Read Chasing Vermeer through Chapter 4 by Monday.
Thursday:Don't forget your works cited is due to me by tomorrow.
Wednesday: Same as Monday and Tuesday. There will be a 10 question "pop" quiz given in class on Friday. The quiz will be open notes!
Tuesday: A copy of your works cited (for the volcano brochure is due to me on Friday. I am asking for these a little earlier than your science project is due to aide you with formatting if needed. (Don't forget the works cited guidelines given to you and placed in your writer's handbook). See Monday's notes for some upcoming reading deadlines.
Monday: You must finish reading your classic novel by Jan 21st. Your book project is due on Feb 18th. Mrs. Farnum gave out a list of 6 book project options, each very different in their appeal and appropriateness for different learning styles. Monday: Your Sahara Special Final Draft Packet is due tomorrow. It must be color coded. You will turn in your packet with a gradesheet, the prewriting chart and the rough draft outline. Your Parts of Speech job must be completed by Wednesday. Remember that your job will involve putting together one of the following: notes, study guide, costume, or the creative genius presentation.

Monday, Nov. 18th: Study for your Wordly Wise Unit 3 Test. Mrs. Farnum will post a review game on her website today. This will be the last Wordly Wise Test you can earn extra credit point for study tools... from now on, they're just study tools! :)
Tuesday, Nov 19th: Finish up your Sahara Special Paragraph if you didn't finish it in class. Bring your Trimester Two book project choice sheet with you to class tomorrow for approval.
Wednesday: Start reading your class novel (trimester two book) over the holiday. Remember, this reading will also count toward your million word count.

Nov. 10th-14th:
~For the past few weeks, students have had no homework in Language Arts. We've dedicated class time to preparing for a Sahara Special Character Analysis paper (which we're starting next week IN CLASS) and to work on our book review podcasts. At this point, all students should be done writing their podcast scripts and should be in the final stages of recording their podcasts.
Here are some upcoming due dates for students to keep in mind. Please note that students have been given plenty of class time to complete these assignments in class:
Tuesday: I will collect characterization bookmarks with direct quotes from Sahara Special. Students will be required to complete this assignment before working on their podcasts today.
Wednesday: Podcasts are due by the end of the period. Writer's Handbooks will be collected for the trimester one grade. The writer's handbook will be graded based on class notes and interactive components we completed in class. All assignments in the writer's handbooks were done in class. The table of contents can be found on our Language Arts download page to make up any absent work.
Thursday: We will begin the prewriting stage of our character analysis assignment. No homework
Friday: Listen to podcasts and get caught up on any last minute missing assignments.

Week of Sept 29-October 3
Read your first trimester independent reading book for 20 minutes each night. This WILL count towards your million word project. You must finish reading your book by Monday, October 20th.
There will be a quiz on the sentence errors we've been discussing in class. The quiz will be open notes, so make sure to bring your writer's handbook with you on Friday to take advantage of that opportunity.
