Art for the 2008-2009 school year at North Rowan Middle School. North Rowan Middle School has been winning awards all year! We are so very proud of our talented students. First, a 6th grader took 3rd Place in the Salisbury City Council's "Think Green" Poster Contest. Then, an 8th grader won 1st Place in the the system for the National School Bus Poster contest. Her work has gone on to compete on the state level. Meanwhile, a 6th grader won 1st Place in the system for the National School Bus Safety Contest. Her work has also gone on to compete at the state level. The East Branch of the Rowan Public Library sponsored a "Teen Space" Banner contest, and an 8th Grader won that prize. Three students were awarded a place in a special Waterworks Artist-in-Residence Workshop. Six students from each school were nominated, and only three could get in. We had a wonderful exhibit at the Rowan Salisbury Middle School Art Show, with 20 students' work recognized. We were invited by the State of North Carolina Credit Union to show off North Rowan Middle School art. Twelve students had their work chosen to display at the credit union for the month of May. At the Carolina Artists' Guild Student Expo, two eighth graders took 1st Place and 3rd Place respectively. At the Covenant Community Connection's "Let's Get Together Day" at Dan Nicholas Park, North Rowan Middle School took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place in art and 1st Place in Essay! Our final exhibition was at North Rowan High School on June 5, for the first annual "Night of the Arts" celebration. The art, chorus, and band groups from the high school and the middle school came together to show the community all the great programs and talents. We had a wonderful crowd to show up and we are so grateful for the support of the arts programs at the two schools. For students interested in taking art classes, Waterworks Visual Art Center is offering some great classes for all ages. Thank you for all your support this year! Art Club ended for this school year on May 29, 2009. We had a lot of fun and got to make things. It was a very good year! |
