Welcome to the Fabulous First Grade!
Here's what's happening this week...
Bible- We will begin learning about Josiah the boy king. We will also be talking about churches and learning about being industrious. The students have done a fantastic job of memorizing Phil. 4:4-9. It is a joy to hear them recite it. We will begin learning First Thessalonians 5:18 this week. Our hymn for November is "Praise Him".
Phonics- We will be continuing to learn about silent e and how it changes the sounds of the vowels. We will also be talking about contractions. Our sight words are DON'T, WON'T, and SURE. Our spelling test and phonics assessment will be on Friday. List 6: 1. go 2. hi 3. am 4. get 5. him 6. ten 7. best 8. help 9. pick 10. black *11. you *12 what Get a can of clams. What can you print?
Reading- We will continue to work on sequencing a story as well as learn new vocabulary words. We are learning that there is an order to how things happen. We are also learning to ask ourselves, "What happened first?" and "What happened next?" We are drawing pictures of the things that happen in a story using a flow chart. This helps us to tell the order of how things happened in the story. We will have a new poem on Friday and we will continue working on our fluency activities next week. Please continue practicing the decodables that come home as well as other books that your child enjoys. Remember to read often!
Handwriting- We are practicing each day.
Math - We will be working with pattern blocks, counting by 10's to 100, and beginning our subtracting 1 facts.
Heritage Studies- We will continue to talk about early trading with the Indians and have a special focus on Veteran's Day by learning what it is all about on Tuesday. Resources: Monday-Junie B. Jones field trip! Tuesday- No chapel today!/ Library Wednesday-NO SCHOOL/Veteran's Day! Thursday- Art Friday-Fun Shelf!
*Please consider joining us for a special Thanksgiving chapel on Thursday, November 19th as each class will be performing something special for Thanksgiving. Our class will be reciting Philippians 4:4-9. We will also be having the Thanksgiving feast on that day along with crafts, games, and fun. If you can help in the classroom that day, it would be much appreciated. Have a great week!
