November Theme: Birds Books: 5 Little Ducks, The Little Red Hen, Duck on a Bike, Over the River: A Turkey's Tale, 5 Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice, I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie Songs: - Owl in the Barn (spoken): A little boy went into the barn and lay down on some hay. An owl came out and flew about and the little boy ran away.
- Feathered Birds (spoken): 5 feathered birds sitting on the door, one flew away and then there were 4. Four feathered birds singing in a tree, one flew away and then there were 3. Three feathered birds looking at you, one flew away and then there were 2. Two feathered birds sitting in the sun, one flew away and there there was 1. One feathered bird looking like a hero, it flew away and then there were 0.
- Turkey Jerky: (Hokey Pokey): You put your right wing in, you put your right wing out, you put your right wing in and you flap it all about. You do the Turkey Jerky and your turn yourself around, that's what it's all about. (continue with left wing, right/left claws, beak, tail feathers)
Centers: - Sensory: PlayDoh w/alphabet cutters, sorting feathers in rice table using tweezers, foam putty with faces

Make a graph of colors to record the colors of birds you see together.
- Make a birdfeeder by spreading peanut butter on a pinecone, then rolling it in birdseeds. Hang it where your child thinks the birds will see it best. An alternative birdfeeder can be made by stringing Cheerios on yarn and attaching a small bell to the bottom.
- Point out when there are geese flying south for the winter. Talk about why they fly south and when they'll come back.
- Play rhyming games. Say a word, such as "cat" that has a common ending sound (-at, -an, -it, -ing). Encourage your child to think of as many rhyming words as possible. This is difficult for young children, however the practice is benefical.
- Hide an item in a room of your home, then give hints to your child about where to find it (ie: "It's behind a type of furniture" or "It's next to something blue"). You could also use "hot/cold/warm" clues.

December Theme: Gingerbread Books: various versions of The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Baby, If You Take a Mouse to the Movies, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin Songs: - Yummy Gingerbread: (tune of Frere Jacques) Gingerbread, gingerbread, yum yum yum, yum, yum, yum. I like gingerbread, I like gingerbread. In my tum, in my tum.
- Gingerbread: (spoken & acted out) Stir a bowl of gingerbread, smooth and spicy brown. Roll it with a rolling pin, up and down. Cut it with a cookie cutter, make some little men. Put it in the oven 'til half past ten.
Centers: - Sensory: foam putty with faces, ingredients sensory table w/cinnamon, moon sand
- Fine Motor: gingerbread manipulatives, gingerbread tracers, Playdoh gingerbread decorating

Wish List: Curriculum: Our preschool curriculum is based on the CT Preschool Curricular Goals and Benchmarks. Through an integrated approach, we focus on all areas of development, including cognitive, language, social, emotional/behavioral, self-help/independence, fine motor, gross motor, creative expression/aesthetic, and sensory processing development.
