 Week of November 23rd - December 4th

 

Congratulations to Lindsey for being Awesome Author and Kayla for being on the "A" Team! 

We will be making a decorative turkey from recyclable material on Monday.  Please see your child's planner for the supplies they will need to participate in the project.

Students have created the format for their Power Point Book Reports.  They can start adding the content, graphics, and animation during our daily schedule in the computer lab and in their free time.

 

Pumpkin Bread Day will be Tuesday, November 24th.  Please check your child's binder this week for the list of baking supplies needed and send them to school on Tuesday.

  The assignments below are for the week of November 30th through December 4th.

 

 

Reading 

Leonardo's Horse, p. 292-309. SKill - Main Idea.  Vocabulary Workout and story study guide due Friday.  Please use the study guide to help your child review for the test.  *Reading test Friday* 

 

Reading Counts  

This month's chapter book is Indian in the Cupboard.  This month students will not be completing a book report at home.  Instead, they will be creating and presenting the book through a Power Point presentation completed at school.  Both Power Point and computerized test are due Monday, November 30th.   

 

Spelling  

Story 11, Leonardo's Horse. Skill - Compound Words.  See Spelling City link below for word list and practice games.  Students may take pretest on Monday-Thursday. *Postest on Friday*

 

Grammar  

Skill: Principle Parts of Regular Verbs p. 116-119 and WS p. 47-48. *Grammar test on Friday*

 

Writer's Workshop

Descriptive Essay: 

Essay Topic - Think about a trip you have taken with your family or with a school group.  Describe to a friend what the trip was like.  Where did yougo, and what did you do?  Include details about the sights, sounds, and smells that you experiences along the way, so that your friend can imagine what your trip was like. 

  

Essays will be typed into Writing Roadmap for evaluation.  Students may work on their essays at home using the link below.  Our goal is to get all 5's and 6's on the rubric.

 

Math 

Chapter 3: Prime and Composite Numbers p. 164-166, Interpreting Remainders p. 186-169, Quiz Wednesday on textbook p. 171, Order of Operations p. 172-173, and Graphing Ordered Pairs p. 174-175. See below for homework schedule.

Social Studies 

Unit- United States Census 2010. 

*Quiz will be Thursday, December 3rd.*  Please refer to the highlighted information in the Census packet to prepare for the test. 

The extra credit questions will be:  1)  What senator from what state has served in the Senate longer than any other senator in American history?  2.) What is the 2000 Census population count for West Virginia?
