Homework News
I am sending home take home books with your child. Please read these books with your child and fill out the reading log. Send the book back each day so your child may get a new one. Once your child has a complete page of books on the reading log they will get a ticket for a special treat. Don't forget to practice book and print nightly. This assessment will be here before we know it.
Homework will also be sent home weekly on Mondays. Homework
has to be turned in by the Friday of the same week.
Please also look through your child's BEE book and check their agendas and sign them daily. This is how we communicate back and forth and I like to make sure you are informed on behavior, and any information needed.
We are working on learning our Rainbow Words. This sheet is in the Bee book for you to use to help your child learn the different levels of words. Please do not mark on this sheet because I use that as my assessment tool. Please work on these with your child each night.
Remember!!! When sending money to school be sure to place it in an envelope or baggie with your child's name, what the money is for and lunch number if necessary.

Writer's Workshop
This is a time during the day that the students learn to be authors. We are continuing to work on writing small moment stories but making them more focused and having details. We are working on using spaces, capital letters, punctuation and spelling words as correctly as possible. Still encourage your child to sound out the word and not to focus on correct spelling, but how it sounds phonetically. Writing can also be done at home as well as school. Their writing is getting better and better each day. Encourage your child to look at everything as a potential story! You will be amazed at what they can do!!
February Curriculum
Writing and phonics
We will continue to work on learning letters and sounds through Zoo phonics. We are still working on letter names and sounds as we are working in Writing Workshop. In Writing Workshop we are continuing to work on small moment stories and writing those stories for readers.
Play and Learn Centers
Students will be listening to Valentines stories and making February related crafts. The students will be learning about the different parts of a story and how to put the events of the story in correct sequence. They will also be working with what it means to share something equally. They will work on writing and making sentences and illustrating the sentences as well as using unifix cubes to cover shapes and recording their answers.
Science
The science curriculum has been integrated into Play and Learn Centers. Students have been learning about penguins and winter animals. We will continue to work on this as well as polar animals.
Math
In math we are working on recognizing numbers 10-20 and counting to 20. The students are also learning the difference between even/odd numbers, estimating different objects, using nonstandard units to measure different objects and record their findings on a graph. We will be counting to 100 and weighing our different objects using a scale.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!
