Parents, we will have the attendance pizza party tomorrow (Friday) during the regular lunch time (11:43). I am buying the pizza, chips, and Gatorade. I've asked the students to bring a reusable sports type bottle for the Gatorade as I am trying to avoid buying plastic bottles. You are welcomed to bring fruit or small cookies as extras. NO CAKES PLEASE as it will be a regular lunch. Save those until the end of the year party :)

Parents, the month of May is here and the end of the year is coming but before it is all over and done, there is so much that will need to take place. Take out your calendars and please make note of the important dates and events during the month of May! Continue to read and you will see details for each one of those dates/events.

I also want to thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for us teachers (and students) this school year. Your support and special touches make us feel appreciated. I truly enjoy what I do because of your children. They are special people that come from special families. And my door, doesn't it look just beautiful? If you have not had a chance to see it, please come by. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are much appreciated as well!

Student-Led Conferences 5/2/12

This Wednesday your children will host the Spring Student-Led Conferences with you, their  families! About half of the class has signed up and those families’ time has been confirmed. If you have not signed up, you still have time! I have placed the list outside my door so please pick a time that is most convenient for you.

I am asking that you DO NOT erase anyone’s name from the list. If a slot becomes full and you need to switch times with someone, please arrange with them first and then one of you change the time. Right now no switching needs to take place as we have lots of slots available for each time.

Please note: We understand that May 2^nd may not work for everyone. If that’s your case, please pick another date and time after May 2^nd and let me know when you can meet with your child. Your child will be allowed to step out of the classroom during that time and go share the portfolio with you.

Each child must have a student-led conference. If there is just no way for you to meet with your child, please let me know at your earliest convenience and I will arrange for another teacher in the school to mentor your child for the Student-Led Conference.

Tejas Lee 4/30

The Tejas Lee testing window opened today. I will be doing the end of year Reading evaluation with each child. Those results will be shared with you as soon as the school district informs us. We have done this already at the beginning and middle of the year. This is the final Tejas Lee evaluation.

Perfect Attendance Pizza Party

I promised the students to give them a pizza party if we have the best attendance in second grade for any given month. It looks like we should win for the month of April that ended today. Once confirmed by Mrs. Patin, I will schedule a date for the pizza party. I first need to wait for Mrs. Patin to confirm it during announcements.

Aprenda Testing 5/17-5/21

We are testing all of next week in the mornings. Please have your child at school on time as we will start testing as soon as possible. Make sure your child goes to bed early and has a good breakfast in the morning before coming to school or they may have breakfast at school.

Field Trip

We go to Main Street Theater on May 17 to see Superfudge! I know I will need volunteers but I’m not sure of the number needed at this time. I will check and let you know the exact number soon. We will leave at 11:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m.

Stanford Testing (Non-target language) 5/21-23

We are taking the Stanford test from May 21-May 23. This is the English version of Aprenda. On these days also have your child at school on time as we will start testing as soon as possible. Make sure your child goes to bed early and has a good breakfast in the morning before coming to school or they may have breakfast at school.

How We Express Ourselves presentations 5/29

Our final planner for the year is under the Theme How We Express Ourselves.  On this day the students will present their summative work in the morning and you are invited. More details to come in the next couple of weeks.

Second Grade Awards 5/29

The Second Grade Awards also take place on this day but in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Please join us in the cafeteria at that time!

End of Year Party 5/30

The end of year party will take place the day before the last day of school for students. That day is May 30^th. The last day of school for students is May 31^st. You will receive further details from the room parents about the party. I know we will start during lunch time like we did for the Holiday party in December.
