Readers’ Workshop
We will begin in our new reader Let’s Learn Together this week. Our two stories, A Big Mess and The Little Red Hen will be introduced on Tuesday. Please read these two stories with your child each day. We continue to enjoy books about bats and Halloween. You should find at least two small books in your child’s folder each day. These books are from small group instruction, and they are also to be read each day at home. Please help your child remember to read his or her My Poetry Song Book each Thursday and return it the next day.

News and Notes
Our Student in the Spotlight this week is Quintaria Petty. She may share pictures of her family and small items from home that are special to her. These will be on display in our classroom.
© We are planning a Halloween celebration at the end of the day on Friday. We hope each of us has a safe time Trick-or-Treating on Friday evening.
© Last Friday we enjoyed interviewing one of the firemen from our local Fire Department. He said to be certain all of us have smoke detectors in our homes. Your child will report whether or not you have a smoke detector.
© Please continue to review and sign your child’s I am a good S.P.O.R.T. and WEB reading log each evening.
© Yearbooks are on sale for $16.00 until November 7th.
In Science we are learning how important the sun is for us. Your child should keep observing the moon each night during this month. Please allow him or her to look at the moon, draw a picture of what it looks like each night or the next morning, and write about it in the observation book. In Social Studies we are learning about jobs, needs and wants, goods, and transportation. We will talk about jobs we hope to have when we grow up.
Writer’s Workshop
Our class has written and published one more book, Pumpkin, Pumpkin, What Do You See? We are working on a nonfiction book about bats. Ask your child about these new books. Our next unit of study will be on writing about small moments we have experienced.
