This year in ART, all grades will be learning more about and using the ELEMENTS OF ART
Line, Shape,Form,Space,Color,Value & Texture
and the
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
Pattern,Rhythm,Balance,Emphasis, Harmony,Variety & Unity.

Kindergarten & Gr. 1 are learning about LINE. They will create a variety of lines in both marker and cut paper. They will make a "quilt" of 4 different line designs

Shape and space were the next elements of art that Kindergarten explored. They learned about LANDSCAPES and how to create them using GEOMETRIC SHAPES. They also learned FOREGROUND,MIDDLEGROUND and BACKGROUND.
Students learned about "Cave"Art" and how to draw animals in a simulated cave in the art room.  Using art prints as inspiration, they created their own cave art drawings as if they too were cave people.
They continued to use shapes in creating a cut paper Toy Soldier.
Our most recent creation was Aboriginal Art. Students "told a story" through Aboriginal symbols.  They used their hand print as the Australian's would have done in their rock paintings.  Their work is currently on display in the glass cabinet in the front hall.

Our exciting year continues in art and we are learning lots of interesting things about art!

Grades 2 & 3
Students will work on a number of  multi-cultural art works from Cave art , Egyptian, Australian Dot paintings to Native American items.
We look forward to another creative and exciting year of learning in ART.
Their first endeavor was a Japanese cylinder
kite in celebration of Children's day in Japan, followed by cave art drawings Stories with Aboriginal symbols in the Papunya Dot style is their current focus.

Grade 4 and 5 have exciting multicultural projects to look forward to this year as well.  We started with some basics first however. Exploding LINES and the use of PERSPECTIVE was one of our first creative endeavors. We are currently creating paper mache bowls onto which we will paint our Aboriginal "story" using Aboriginal symbols.

Visit the 52 hall to see examples of our creative endeavors.
