LANGUAGE ARTS SCHOOL NOTES:

 I will give everyone a L.A. Table of contents for their notebook. We will number their papers and add them as an entry in their table of contents TOGETHER on the projector. It will be each students responsibility to maintain a current and organized binder at all times. If you stay with me and pay attention in class, this should be a very easy task. I look forward to an outstanding and very productive year.

Language Arts materials:

(1) Language Arts binder (2 or 3 inch works best)

college ruled notebook paper  - students will need to keep this in the back of their binder as they will use it all of the time.

(1) hole punched pocket folder to be kept in the back of your LA binder - this will be your writing folder)

(1) marble composition notebook - this will be used the second nine weeks

1-2 sharpened pencils at all times - you may keep a pencil pouch with all supplies

1-2 blue, black and red pens at all times - these will be used to edit and write papers

Agenda (This will be given to you on the first day of school)

Periodically you will need colored pencils but you do not need to bring those on a daily basis - I will let you know when you need to bring those prior to that day in class

1/4 - Wednesday's Lesson Plans: Writing Folders - pass out papers and finish organizing writing folders. Folders will be collected at the end of the period. Pass out an updated Interim Report  - Entry #14 (Complete writers reflection in class for our writing folder) and pass back and review Entry #15 - The Lighning Thief test

Homework: Week #15 and #16 Reading logs  and Entry #14 - get your interim report signed and return tomorrow as well as Entry #15 - fill out your writer's reflection questions. Restate/answer and elaborate.

1/5-  Thursday's Lesson Plans: Media Center Book check out - Week #15 and #16 reading logs are due. We will have three separate piles of papers in the Media Center. Reading logs, signed interim reports and writer's reflection papers. Anyone that did not turn their materials in today will be doing this work during our Media Center time today.

1/6 -  Friday's Lesson Plans: Poetry/ Literary Terms - Cornell Notes in class together - Entry #16

1/9 - Monday's Lesson Plans:  First five to ten minutes in class - grab a study buddy and practice using your cornell notes. If you did not do your homework then you will need to sit in your seat and complete it while everyone else is studying. SEE IT/ SAY IT/ SHOW IT/ STORE IT - using poetry/ literary terms -Entry #17 -  I will model this in class and then let the kids use the rest of the period completing the pkt.

Homework: Entry #17 - See it/ say it pkt for Cornell notes vocab. Study using your Cornell Notes

1/10 - Tuesday's Lesson Plans:Pass out Entry #18 and introduce our first three types of poetry - acrostic poetry, synonym poetry and antonym poetry. These notes are completed Cornell Notes style so the kids will be asked to complete sections A & B as well as creating their own poems.

Homework: Entry #18 - Sections A & B as well as three original poems following very specific guidelines. Week #17 and #18 Reading logs are due 1/19

1/11 - Wednesday's Lesson Plans: Today we will be introduced to Haiku poetry in class. I will have the kids work in groups. Each group will be given several Haiku poems and they need to work together to determine why they would be classified as a Haiku. Following this activity the kids will be given a Haiku wksht so work on their own Haiku poems - Entry #19

1/12 - Thursday's Lesson Plans:Today the kids will be introduced to four new types of poetry: Free verse/ List/ Concrete and Narrative poems - Entry #20 The notes will be given to the kids in Cornell Note form so they will be responsible for sections A & B as well as the individual poems.

1/18 - Wednesday's Lesson Plans:Ticket Inn Activity - reviewing homework from last night.  Pass out Entry #24 and introduce Ballads - complete this activity in pairs. Any remaining time can be spent working with a study buddy preparing for your first poetry quiz. Anything that we have covered on poetry up to this point is fair game for the quiz.

1/19 - Thursday's Lesson Plans: Media Center Visit - Week #17 and #18 Reading logs are due. We will be taking our poetry Quiz in the Media Center and completing our book check out as soon as the quiz is finished.
