Mrs. Reyes Classroom Newsletter Sept. 14 Reading In reading we are going to be making inferences. This is when students take things they know and things they read in a text to make a conclusion. This is also known as reading between the lines. This week’s vocabulary: beam, projected, pattern, monitor, absorption The vocabulary test is next week. We are also reviewing genre types. MathWe are continuing with adding and subtracting numbers of three digits or less. We are also determining when and how to estimate and when and how to use mental math.
There will be a quiz on Tuesday. Beginning Wednesday, we will subtract with zeros. EX: 209-196= Language We are working with irregular verbs. There is a short quiz Friday. Students are going to look in depth at each stage of the writing process. Brainstorming, Rough Draft, Editing and Revisions, Final Draft and Publishing. Phonics The rules for this week are for spelling the /aw/ sound. aw and au: aw is used at the end of a word or in the middle if the word ends in a single [n] or [l] like pawn, lawn, crawl, and shawl au is used in the middle of words like cause Social LivingWe are starting science this week! We will be measuring temperature by using Fahrenheit and Celsius thermometers and compare the results. Students will become familiar with boiling, freezing and room temperature for both units of measurements. We will also classify and compare objects based on similar properties. The test is Friday. |
