Welcome to our Class Webpage! Please begin going to my new website - http://lesliekelly.pbworks.com - It is a wiki (means really fast), and I will soon stop updating this page and only updating that page. Please make sure that your child keeps the cursive sheet, HOTS questions, RUNNERS sheet, Value Spelling chart, and their spelling list in their homework folder so that they have them at school and at home. We will work with our spelling words almost every day, so I will want them to have those with them. We will do some cursive at school as well as for homework, so they will need them both places. Thank you! If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call me at school or e-mail me from this webpage. I will automatically be notified of any messages sent from this webpage. If you call at school, you will probably be sent to my voicemail, so I will be able to get your message and call you back.
The pieces to our classroom puzzle:
Every single student is a very important part to completing the puzzle that is our class family. Each person fills a hole, so everyone is needed. As we continue with the philosophy, "We are family," our theme this year is, "We are all in this together!" We will work together as a team to ensure everyone's success in our classroom.
Reading
We are learning about diaries and journals this week, and we are studying the skill summarizing. Students should be now finished with their biography projects.
Reading Counts
Each student's RC goal is based on his/her lexile. If a child has a lower lexile, the points goal will be lower. If the lexile is higher, the goal will be higher. Each goal will be obtainable, and we will be reading books in class that will also be worth points.
Reading Counts points are due by March 5th. If your child is not reading and earning any points, please encourage him/her to be reading things that are interesting and will help them reach their goal.
Math
Students have been and will continue to be studying fractions. We will begin adding and subtracting fractions this week!
We are still taking multiplication quizzes each week, but once the quarter ends, the multiplication quizzes will end as well, so I strongly encourage your child to study hard to do the absolute best he/she can! I can tell that many students are studying their flashcards, because they are improving. Others are improving but not quite there yet, and some are still struggling with their multiplication facts. Let's keep improving on our multiplication skills! :-)

Social Studies
We are working on the different diversities in our state. This week we are talking about the impact of religious diversity as well as the different arts and crafts that are known in our state.
Science
Students have been studying animals and their adaptations. In this unit, students will learn about the different animal groups, characteristics for each, as well as how animals adapt to their surroundings to survive. Students will make lots of different things for this unit, so it should be a lot of fun!
