February 6-10, 2012

Language Arts:

This week we are working on the theme titled “Animals Grow and Change”.  We will be working on the following skills: words with long u, words with silent e, identifying the setting of a story, and the high frequency words: anything, thank, woman, their, does.  Our vocabulary words for the week are: mammal, reptile, and young.  Our comprehension skill for the week is creating images.  In writing, we are working on our five page book.  We are writing a research book.  Language Arts homework is due on Friday.

Phonics/Spelling: 

This week we are working on the sounds: ur and ow (cow).  Our spelling words for the week are:.  Spelling home work is on Monday night ONLY.  It will be checked on Tuesday.

Math: 

This week we are working on time: which takes longer, parts of a clock, and telling time to the hour, and taking and discussing quiz 10.  We will take quiz 10 on Friday.  Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts.

Science:

We are working on the science unit titled “Variations, Changes, and Adaptations in the Environment”.  This week we will be identifying what plants need to grow.

·      Please see above for this week’s math homework.

·      Progress reports will be going home on Tuesday.  They will be attached to your child’s signed papers.

·      Practice fluency story attached to this packet.   

·      Spelling and Deep math quiz 10 on Friday.

·      Continue practicing addition and subtraction facts at home.

·      Valentine’s Day is coming up on Tuesday, February14^th.  Please read the attached letter about sending treats on this day.

·      Tuesday, February 14^th is our PBIS mid-nine weeks party.  Students can use their Starbucks to participate in Crazy Hair / Crazy Hat Day.  Students will be allowed to participate of 7Starbucks.  A note will be coming home on Monday, February 13th if they paid their Starbucks to participate.

·      1^st grade will be going bowling for the Bowl-a-Thon on Thursday, February 16^th.  Only students who returned their money will be going.

·      We will be having our annual Mardi Gras parade Friday,February 17^th at 2:00.  The 3^rd grade is asking for your old beads.  If you have any Mardi Gras beads that you would like to donate, please send them to school.  Third grade will be collecting beads until next week.  If you have any, please send them in.

·      Thank you to everyone who donated Zip-Lock bags and pencils.  We are still in need of both, so if you are interested in donating a box, that would be wonderful.
