A lot of exciting new things are happening in Mrs. Carlson's classroom.  We are trying out the "Daily Five" and "CAFE" during our Language Art block.  The Daily 5 consists of: 1. reading to self  2. Buddy reading   3. Listening to reading   4. Writing  5. Word study

CAFE stands for comprehension, accuracy, fluency and expanding vocabulary. Our morning consists of working on these features through the Daily 5. The students are very involved and enjoying the new approach to learning.  So you, as parents, will see less workbook pages coming home.  The children will be taking more responsibility for their own learning with teacher conferencing and small group lessons.    

We also have a class set of IPod Touches that we are using for word study, story reading, math practice and just for enjoyment.  The kids love them! 

Spelling tests will be more individualized beginning next week so words will not be published on school notes.  Be sure to check lists that come home in Monday's folder.  

The last 2 months of school will be full of new challenges but the students are embracing them and we are all very excited about them.
