    MS. GORDON'S THIRD GRADE CLASS!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to third grade.  I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.  As third grade students, your child can expect to take the FCAT test for the first time.

It is my belief that we are working together as partners in the education of your child.  As partners we should both be fully aware of your child's progress.  During this school year, I will be assigning homework and sending home assignment work everyday except Friday.  I ask that you initial or sign it each day acknowledging that you have seen it.  Please feel free to write notes regarding your child's work or any questions you may have, as I will check them every morning.

I hope that together with you and your child, we can make this school year rewarding and fulfilling.

Thank you for your anticipated co-operation.

Sincerely,

Ms. Marlo Gordon

                           FIRST NINE WEEKS!

                  READING:

Every week I will introduce our reading selection and review the skills within the selection through a Readers Workshop model.  The students will receive a weekly study guide that will include the spelling and vocabulary words, grammar and FCAT focus skills.  The reading instruction will be whole and guide group and well as student self-guided, but monitored centers.  They are to keep the study guide in their BEE book to bring back and forth from school to home to study and review daily.  As I am teaching responsibility, I will only provide one study guide and post a link on edline.net for printing.

                           SELECTION 2:

Genre Study

Realistic fiction tells about characters and settings that are like people and places in real life. Look for

  • a beginning, a middle, and an end.
  • characters and a setting that could be real.
Accelerated Reader: Make sure your child earns their AR points. AR is 5% of their reading grade.

MATH

We have a new math program called "Go Math!"  The students will have two workbooks that will remain in the class, but  please be on the look out for sheets torn out for homework, mid and chapter tests.  We are excited about this program.  We are starting out with place value and will be moving at one lesson per days.  Lessons will be reinforced by using the Accelerated Math program.  AM will be given as morning work and will count as 5% of their math grade.

          Be wise and READ everyday!
