WEEK OF September 19, 2011

Open House for Parents is THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22

A & B Block Level 1 Pre-Calculus:  The first chapter is devoted to reviewing/strengthening previously learned algebraic concepts while learning how to approach them with a pre-calculus mindset

  • This week students will be finishing their work with exponents (integral and rational) and radicals.
  • There will be a quiz towards the end of the week on these skills. (Section 1.2 of the text)

E & F Block Level 2 Algebra I Part 1:  The first unit solidifies the arithmetic work done by students at the middle school while slowly introducing algebraic concepts such as variables and the differences between evaluating, simplifying, and solving.

  • Students have completed a quick study of the symbolic nature of variables in algebra and the 3-step process of evaluation.  The skills have been tested and the results have been given back to the students.
  • Students are now working on evaluating exponential expressions (variable and numeric) and their applications to commonly used formulas and scientific notation.
  • Students should be prepared for a quiz on the topics early next week.

H Block Honors Pre-Calculus:  The first part of the quarter is going over the summer work and clarifying any mistakes/misconceptions as well as the introduction of algebraic proofs and formal math notation.
