WELCOME TO THE WILLOWBROOK MS BAND WEBSITE!

Thanks for coming to the web page. This site will help you to be well informed about the band's activities.

It is best if you could contact me at g_gregoire@hotmail.com.

Fifth Grade Band

Students should work on pages 12/13 in their lesson book. They received new music for the upcoming Winter Concert. Please encourage them to practice their music regularly. Some of the students are feeling that they still do not know their note names. This is normal. Please check out the following two websites that are located at the bottom of this page:

www.musicracer.com

www.musicards.net

These sites will hopefully help students feel more confident about their performance.

All fifth grade band students should have instrument, book, reeds or valve oil, sticks, etc.

Percussionists

All percussion students grade 6-8 are required to provide there own snare sticks, stick bag and bell mallets. Please put your name on the bag. All students in band must have their instruments in class to fulfill their daily points and percussionists are no exception. Only 3 of 11 7/8 percussionists had their last week. This hurts their daily grade. I will be checking once a week and their grade could be affected.

Snare sticks: Vic Furth either 5A or 5B Nylon tip

Pro Mark either 5A or 5B

Bell Mallets: 1 pair of Mike Balter model 13, birch

Instrument Contracts

There has been some confusion about the school instrumental rental contract that I would like to clear up. First, all students that are using a school instrument MUST pay the $80 rental fee for using a school instrument. This money is used to fix the instrument and keep the instrument in good working condition. Most instruments have dents when you receive it. Some dents I choose not to fix because of the age group.

The contract also states that if the instrument is damaged beyond the “normal wear and tear”, you will have to pay for the repair. While some normal “wear and tear” may be dents, we need to be protected from someone dropping an instrument off of a building and not having to pay to repair it. I know that is the extreme, but that would not be normal “wear and tear”. In the four years that I have been here, I have only had to charge 1 person. This student on more than one occasion was seen dragging the instrument in the hallway and severely damaging the bell of the instrument.

98% of you will never have to pay for any damages, but please talk to your child about how they handle the school’s equipment. If you have any further questions, please contact me at g_gregoire@hotmail.com.

Winter Concerts

Monday, December 14 will be the Winter Concert for grades 6/7/8 and jazz band. Jazz band will perform before the concert at around 6:30. It is not a concert performance, but they will play music as people arrive for the concert.

Wednesday, December 16 will be the concert for 3/4/5.

Both concerts start at 7pm. Students need to wear there black and blue uniforms and arrive by 6:30pm. Jazz Band should arrive at the school by 6:10pm.
