Language Arts Weekly Update

Welcome to my weekly update page! I hope it is useful for you. You can find out what we have been learning in class this week, get homework assignments, and you can even contact me if you have questions or need help. All you have to do is click on the handy link above to send me a message.

Thursday, December 4th

All blocks...read 20 mins and write one CCPQ

Block 1: Complete the Thesis/Introduction Worksheet...fill in the blank boxes.


Block 3: Complete the w.s.-fill in the blank boxes AND write three new thesis/plans and your own boxes.
Prompt 1: the greatest person of all time
Prompt 2: why your fave book, movie or t.v. show is so great...
Prompt 3: Compare/contrast elementary school with middle school.

Block 4:  Complete the Thesis/Introduction Worksheet...fill in the blank boxes.

Monday, December 1st
1.  Finish or revise your Duffy's Jacket notes and essay.  (See Thanksgiving Break Homework below)

2.  Tomorrow is library day...bring your books and your I.D. card.


Thanksgiving Break Homework:
  • Read Duffy’s Jacket by Bruce Coville.  (Pp. 107-111)
  • Take notes in your portfolio.  Copy text on the left and your thoughts/inferences on the right. 
  • Focus on characterization:
  • What are Andrew and Duffy like (character traits)?
  • How does the author show and tell what they are like?
  • How do their character traits add to the events of the story?
  • Read the essay prompt and the sample essay carefully, and then brainstorm the main ideas you want that will follow the essay prompt.
  • Use the graphic organizer to plan your 3-5 paragraph essay: Use your notes and the text for details and examples to support your ideas.
  • Write OR type your essay.

*Please remember that reading logs are due every TUESDAY.  Please make sure reading logs are completed and signed on Monday nights. Students are required to read 80 minutes per week and write one comment, question, connection or prediction every recorded reading time in order to get full credit.
